The Cleveland Browns could decide to part ways with troubled quarterback Johnny Manziel after the 2015 NFL season.

CBS Sports reported that Manziel was demoted and is now the third-string quarterback. Browns coach Mike Pettine announced the changes, saying that Josh McCown will start again for the team with Austin Davis as backup.

The report also indicated that Manziel might not see action again for the Browns -- not only for this season -- because team officials are thinking of parting ways with the former Texas A&M standout.

Pettine decided to demote Manziel after the 22-year-old quarterback was seen in a video released by TMZ partying and holding a bottle of alcohol during their bye week. It should be noted that he underwent rehab during the offseason.

"We all know what happened and what got put out there, and it led to much disappointment, frustration, however you want to term it," Pettine said during "The Mike Pettine Show" on Tuesday via ESPN. "It was something we felt had violated the trust that we had put in him for the bye coming out of the Pittsburgh game."

Pettine also revealed that he also talked to quarterbacks coach Kevin O'Connell and offensive coordinator John DeFilippo before making the decision. The coach added that they kept team owner Jimmy Haslam and general manager Ray Farmer involved in the process, but the final decision was made by the coaches.

The decision came after the former first-round pick was named as starting quarterback for the remainder of the season. The sophomore quarterback has completed 76-of-128 passes for 933 yards this season with five touchdowns and two interceptions.

Pettine said that Manziel, who threw 33-for-45 for 372 yards during their 30-9 loss to Pittsburgh Steelers two weeks ago, showed improvements on the field this season, but they are disappointed with the young quarterback's off-field behavior.

"I'm especially disappointed in his actions and behavior because he has been working very hard," Pettine said. "The improvements from last year to this year have been tremendous, but he still has to consistently demonstrate that he has gained a good understanding of what it takes to be successful at the quarterback position on this level."

Manziel was also involved in another controversy last month, as he was reportedly spotted driving dangerously on a highway. His girlfriend also claimed that Manziel hit her. The NFL conducted an investigation, but the league eventually announced that Manziel will not be suspended for the incident.
