The runaway hit film franchise based on the Suzanne Collins series of novels, "The Hunger Games," is going to get more movies. But there has been speculation as to what kind of movies they would be, such as sequels, spinoffs or prequels.

According to Deadline, the film studio that produced the movie franchise, Lionsgate, might have exposed their plans. Vice chairman Michael Burns may have tipped their hand and revealed just what they intended to do when he spoke at the UBS Global Media and Communications Conference.

"The one thing that kids say they missed was there was no arenas," Burns said at the event. "If we went backwards there obviously would be arenas."

What he is talking about is that since the first book and movie started with 74th annual Hunger Games, then that means there were obviously 73 other years of the games that took place before it. The Collins novel started with the event horizon for the massive rebellion that would eventually take shape and reinvent the future for the fictional dystopian world.

The trilogy of Collins' books are what inspired and ultimately served as a blueprint for the films, the last book being split into two parts of course, giving it four films in total.

But since this a future era story, there is much that could be told about, which includes references that series star Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) spoke about, although briefly. This could include the rise of the Capitol and the rebellion that took place long before, which essentially is why the Hunger Games started in the first place.

So now that fans have already heard from the studio that they intend to continue releasing films in the series, there seems to be a better than good chance that they will be prequels based on Burns' statement. But that also does not rule out an even bigger expansion of sequels or spinoffs for the series, which has all the necessary blueprints and prerequisites firmly in place.
