Nike unveiled the new signature shoe of Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant -- the Kobe 11.

The Kobe 11 looks familiar because it also features the Nike Flyknit technology that was used in the previous signature model. However, Nike pointed out that the new model has what they called "pearlescent fibers" that were made of thermoplastic polyurethane.

The upgraded upper part provides topnotch support and responsiveness, while the mesh tongue construction improves breathability. It also has a lightweight feel and has superb cushioning with the full-length Lunarlon foam and Zoom unit. The midsole also has siping grooves, which provides flexibility and allows the foot to move naturally.

"Throughout my time with Nike, I've obsessed the details of my shoes. For the KOBE 11, we worked to perfect Flyknit for basketball," Bryant said in a statement.

According to Nike designer Eric Avar, the Kobe 11, which will be the final on-court signature shoe of Bryant as he has already announced that he will retire after the 2015-16 NBA season, "distills Bryant's signature legacy to its essence" because of the characteristics of the latest model.

Kobe 11 "Achilles' Heel" Release Date

The Kobe 11 will make its debut on Jan. 9 next year. It will be released in "Achilles' Heel" edition, which is officially listed as the University Red/Metallic Gold-Black colorway of the shoe.

The Kobe 11 "Achilles' Heel" features a red-based upper part with black hints, including the tongue and heel area. It also has a black Nike swoosh and metallic gold Mamba logo on the tongue. According to Nike, the design was inspired by Greek God Achilles and the Achilles surgery that ended Bryant's 2012-13 NBA season.

"Known to be invulnerable in all of his body except for his heel, Achilles' ultimate demise resulted from an arrow to his weak point during the Trojan War. Consequently, the term "Achilles heel," was born," Nike noted. "The KOBE 11 Achilles Heel features a graphic representation of the hero on the right heel, while the left features four-stitch marks representing the four feet of thread used in Bryant's 2013 Achilles surgery."

The Kobe 11 "Achilles' Heel" will be available for $200 per pair. More details about the new signature shoe are available on this link. More colorways are expected to surface in the coming weeks.
