The first image for Pablo Larrain's hotly anticipated "Jackie" has just cropped up.

The image showcases Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy. She is wearing a fanciful read dress in the White House, her presence looming large over the entire frame.

The crux of the story follows the title character throughout the four days between the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and his burial.

The new movie also stars Peter Sarsgaard as Robert Kennedy, Max Casella as Jack Valenti, Beth Grant as Ladybird Johnson and Greta Gerwig in an undisclosed role.

The film was originally slated to feature Darren Aronofsky in the director's chair, but the auteur is not on as one of the producers for the film.

Larrain, who was born in Santiago Chile, is a renowned director who has made seven films to date. His career got started with "Fuga," "Tony Manero" and "Post Mortem," the latter of which brought the helmer to international fame. He followed that up with "No," which managed to nab an Academy Award nomination for Best Foreign Language film.

Despite ending up without the victory on Oscar night, the film forged a strong collaboration between the director and famed Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal, who is set to appear in the film that will premiere before "Jackie;" that film in question is also a biopic based on the life of famed Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. That film is slated for release in 2016.

In between "No" and "Neruda," Larrain also helmed "The Club," which is Chile's Oscar submission for Best Foreign Language film at this year's competition; the film won Best Director at the Berlin International Film Festival and also earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Foreign Film.

"Jackie" is slated for release in 2017. The film is still in production.
