They may be presidential rivals, but Bernie Sanders still defended Hillary Clinton against Donald Trump's personal attacks.

In a report by Bustle, supporters of the Democratic Party heard Sanders defending the party's presidential frontrunner, Hillary Clinton. As leading GOP candidate Donald Trump threw his attacks on Clinton, many were left wondering why Sanders is defending his rival.

He addressed Trumped during a speech at the Iowa Western Community College and said,"This is a guy who wants to be president of the United States," and added that, "He must have a very unusual relationship with women."

The Daily Banter noted that Sanders then joked that he has to be honest with the audience "I've got to lay it out on the table," then proceeded to say that "I also went to the bathroom. I know. I have to admit it."

However, this is not exactly the first time that he came to her rescue, just months ago during the Democratic debate, Sanders quipped that he is "sick of hearing about your damn emails!" pertaining to the email scandal that the former first lady was facing.

The Inquistr noted that when Clinton came under fire when she was caught deleting 32,000 work emails from her personal email server, the media covered the controversy non-stop, but luckily, Sanders was there to deflect some heat rather than continue to grill her during the debate.

Some critics are saying that the reason Sanders defends Clinton is due to some old-fashioned politicking. Someone fighting back against sexism and misogyny can generate positive results on his image.

Quite frankly, this is a rather unusual behavior for an American politician, since people already have this stereotype that they are a bunch of conniving, manipulative and cutthroat individuals.

And in a competitive atmosphere, a candidate trailing in the polls usually does everything they can to get ahead of the favorite.

But still, Sanders continues to warm up to Clinton and the DNC. In fact, he has yet to attack Clinton in any way other than acknowledging that they have political differences. Moreover, what Sanders does in his campaign is the exact opposite of what Donald Trump is doing.

As Trump tries to distance himself from his own party and firing shots every now and then, Sanders remains very civil towards his rivals at the Democratic presidential ticket.

And now, political analysts are seeing Sanders, not as an extreme Socialist Democrat, but a rather rational, well-thought candidate who is very cordial with everyone.

However, despite his defence of Clinton, she remains having a commanding lead against him
