In an apparent bid to expand its market share and add subscribers, Amazon has dropped the price of its Prime membership dramatically for an exclusive deal this weekend only.

According to an Amazon Press Release, the online retailer and streaming media company has taken big strides to attract new customers to it flagship operation, Prime. The company is now taking part in a highly competitive effort to take an even larger bite out of the market share for video streaming and retail shopping by dropping the price of Prime membership to $73 for the weekend.

That's $26 lower than its normal $99 annual subscription to the service, which opens up options for their video buffet, free two-day shipping, music streaming and others.

The deal starts tomorrow at 9 pm. PST and last until Sunday evening at 11:59 local time.

The company has been riding high in the streaming video market. Their original series "Mozart in the Jungle" just gave them a repeat of last year's Golden Globe for best series. "Mozart" actually won two awards this year.

The price reduction seems to emulate the success it achieved during the 73rd annual Golden Globes, priced the same number as the annual event.

For those who are unsure whether or not they want to go with the service, Amazon is trying to sweeten the pot. The press release also stated that "Mozart in the Jungle" is slated to stream to all customers this weekend for free.

If that's still not enough to get your tastes going, then there are reports that the streaming giant is now offering a 20 percent discount on all new games through Amazon for Prime members. Of course, that only applies to games that are stocked, sold and shipped by Amazon.

With all of these new perks and discounts, it's hard to imagine a world where Amazon is not the future empire of the retail and digital markets.
