If Donald Trump doesn't want to attend the upcoming Republican debate, that's fine with his rival Ted Cruz because he's inviting him to a one-on-one.

During an interview on the Mark Levin Show, a conservative radio talk program, the Texas senator was particularly miffed about Trump's plans to skip the upcoming debate that will be hosted by Megyn Kelly.

Cruz said to Levin, "If Donald is afraid of Megyn Kelly, I would like to invite him on your show to participate in a one-on-one debate between me and Donald, mano a mano."

Cruz added that by skipping the Fox News debate, not only does it portray Trump as afraid of Kelly, but it also shows immense disrespect to the citizens of Iowa. He also mentioned that another reason the mogul-turned-presidential candidate wants to skip the debate is because he's afraid his records will be questioned.

The senator even said that should Trump take on his challenge, he can even choose his own moderator for the proposed debate, Business Insider has learned.

Trump recently announced during a press conference in Iowa that he plans to skip the Fox Debate due to the sole fact that it will be hosted by Kelly. He said that he is particularly disturbed by Kelly's supposed "biased" coverage and even called her a "third-rate reporter" and a "total lightweight."

As for Cruz, he said that if Donald J. Trump thinks Megyn Kelly is scary enough, then how will he face opposition like Russia's tough guy president, Vladimir Putin?

In a similar report by The Hill, the second leading GOP candidate said that Trump needs to explain how he's going to show that he's equipped to be the nation's "commander-in-chief if he's terrified of a television host."

The relationship between Trump and Cruz has turned sour during the last couple of months as the two battled neck and neck to the Iowa polls.

Cruz noted that Trump also called him stupid during this past few days, so he thinks that it will be an advantage for him in their upcoming one-on-one debate.

In fact, Cruz even recently released an ad targeting Trump, antagonizing him to the people of Iowa.

In a report by the New York Times, the senator attacked Trump's supposed "New York Values" and showed him a spliced clip calling the citizens of Iowa "stupid," while highlighting the difference between his values.

The latest ad from Ted Cruz even showed Trump speaking in an over-the-top New York accent, which amplified his so called "difference" even more.

As of press time, Trump has yet to respond to Cruz's challenge.
