“Scandal” returns to ABC midseason as fans are still waiting for an official release date for “Scandal” Season 6.

The end of “Scandal” Season 5 left off in the middle of primaries where fans were looking to meet the next lead presidential candidates for the United States.

Scandal Season 6 Spoilers

Show runner Shonda Rhimes tells Entertainment Weekly that “Scandal” Season 6 will pick back up on election night.

The next season of “Scandal” will premiere after the official United States Presidential Election on Tuesday Nov. 8. Rhimes confirms that the country’s election may affect the actual details played out in Scandal’s election night.

“Yes, it is going to play into our season, but we’re not going to spend our time playing an election,” she said.

Fans Comment on “Scandal” Season 6

A lot of fans are rooting for either Mellie Grant (Bellamy Young) or Jake Ballard (Scott Foley) to win the next election.

“Either of these two vice presidential candidates will kill the presidential candidate once in office,” Facebook User Alithia Christina Acosta predicted. “Jake does as he is told and you know [Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington)] wants that Oval [office].”

It is true that Olivia Pope will stop at nothing to win. But will she put her old dirty ways behind her, and win this election fair and square this time around?

Facebook User Claire Powell said that she is, “Team Mellie.” Powell predicted that if she does not win, Olivia will come back for revenge.

Scandal Fan Roots for Latino Presidential Candidate

Meanwhile, Facebook User Iris Vargas is rooting for the Democratic nominee, Mexican-American, Frankie Vargas (Ricardo Antonio Chavira).

In the actual U.S. presidential race in 2016, two Cuban-American candidates, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, stood out at the start of the election run.

Scandal Election Night v. U.S. Election Night

In the series, show runners have mirrored the current 2016 presidential race. They even incorporated a character that acts just like Donald Trump; Hollis Doyle (Gregg Henry). And of course, there is actually a woman, like Hillary Clinton, in the lead role as a presidential candidate.

How will “Scandal” play out once we see who the next U.S. president is?

The show can follow the election and make “Scandal” Season 6 about the actual U.S. winning president; male or female. Or it could let the actual losing opponent win in the show and let people think about the “what ifs.”

Stay tuned for the premiere of “Scandal” Season 6 coming soon.
