The season finale of "The Originals" was intense and filled with a number of shocking moments, including Hayley's transition into a hybrid and the return of Rebekah. As a result, the ending was moving, bittersweet, and left fans anxious for season 2.

In the episode, which was titled "From a Cradle to a Grave," Klaus and Hayley's baby was finally born. However, after the birth of the precious baby girl, named Hope, the witches slit Hayley's throat, and Klaus was forced to watch her bleed to death. Fortunately, she was able to come back since the baby's blood was still in her system. But first, she was forced to drink her own child's blood to finish the transition, which resulted in her becoming a hybrid.

Marcel managed to stop the witches from sacrificing the newborn to gain more power, and in turn, Klaus saved him with his blood. Later, they staged the baby's death to protect her, and Klaus handed her off to his sister Rebekah, who made a surprise return after the leaving the show earlier in the season, Just Jared Jr reported.

In the meantime, Davina blocked Mikael from killing Klaus and locked him in the attic that she detests.

At the very end of the finale, Ester and presumably Finn appeared in other people's bodies in order to continue their mission to kill baby Hope.

Although fans will have to wait until next season to see how the storyline pans out, executive producer Julie Plec dropped a few spoilers about what to expect in regard to Rebekah's role on the show and Hayley's future as a hybrid.

One of the biggest finale shockers was the return of Claire Holt as Rebekah Mikaelson, who left her starring role earlier in season one. However, Plec hinted that, although Holt is no longer a main character, viewers will see more of her next season.

"Honestly, I definitely know we'll see her again in certain contexts," the EP told TVLine. "She's got the baby, so it's not like she'll be living in New Orleans and playing nanny in the middle of the French Quarter, but this is not the last we've seen of her. We'd definitely like to check in on her every now and again."

Plec also confessed that she knew that Holt did not plan to remain as a leading character, so the producers were forced to come up with an appropriate storyline.

"When we started the season, we knew she'd be leaving us, and if we couldn't convince her to stick around, then that would be the way we'd end that journey. It's funny because it weirdly didn't have to be a secret so much as it just happened at the end of the year when everyone was so busy with other things that they didn't even think about it."

As far as next season is concerned, Plec told Entertainment Weekly, "This is not the last we've seen of Rebekah and the baby, but it's also not going to be a primary storyline." She even hinted at a Mikealson family reunion. "We may get a full family reunion later in the season if we're lucky, but right now her role is Aunty Beks, and the protection of and the secret surrounding that baby is paramount to her. So she will be off doing that, and we won't necessarily be following that storyline right off, but we will get to see her again."

Plec went on to tease how the next season will start, saying "Season two is going to begin with what we call the werewolf occupation, which is Francesca thinks she's in charge and has been actually carrying on making rules and exiling vampires and doing all kinds of nasty things, so the first thing on the table is of course going to have to be revenge. And then if and when that's completed, the question is what becomes of those wolves?"

She continued previewing what will happen to Hayley, now that she is no longer a werewolf leader. "There's a lot of wolves that Klaus was aligned with that were all looking to Hayley as their queen, but now she's no longer a werewolf, she's a hybrid, and there's no love lost there for that species. So they're going to be kind of stranded without a leader, and we're going to have to see who steps in and takes that role of alpha. Will it be Jackson? Will it be Oliver? Will Hayley be able to win her way back? What's going to solidify these wolves in one group, or now that they've won the Quarter, are they going to start in-fighting as well?"

The showrunner also said that Klaus' parents' plot to kill him will be a focal point in the first few episodes of the new season. "The biggest question is at what point are they going to become aware of the other? And at what point is anyone going to become aware of them? That plays out over the first few episodes of Season 2, and it's kind of fun because you've got these two really nasty entities from Klaus' upbringing, both of whom are back in town. The shock when he realizes it's not just one but also the other is going to be pretty great."
