Is Arsenal going after Julian Draxler? According to some reports, the team has sent officials to work out a deal for the German phenom and defender Sebastian Jung.

According to Goal.com, "The Premier League leaders will attempt to broker a deal for the Germany star in a bid to sign him before Friday's transfer deadline, and they will also open negotiations with Frankfurt over a move for right back Sebastian Jung."

This report runs contrary to a recent statement from Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger who claimed that the team had no intention to sign Draxler.

"That again is an illusion," said Wenger about the rumors, according to ESPN. "There's nothing happening. Honestly, no. We have no need for players on the flanks -- we have 17 players on the flanks. We don't rule it out but at the moment I can't announce anything."

Schalke 04 manager Horst Heldt was also adamant that the team would not be letting go of its top star.

"I have not been told that Julian would like to leave us, either in the winter or the summer," Horst Heldt stated, according to ESPN. "There have not been any requests from any club regarding Julian."

It is possible that the two denied the reports in order to avoid the media buzz. However, the latest news could indicate that the two sides are actually closer than they have let on.

Bayern Munich has also been rumored as having interest; it may be possible that Arsenal has stepped up its own interest in response to the Bavarian side's attempts to grab the youngster.
