"Sin City: A Dame to Kill For," like its predecessor, is taken from the series of Frank Miller comic books. A continuation of the first film, it is directed by Frank Miller himself along with Robert Rodriguez and tackles four different life stories. Miller wrote the script as well, and the second "Sin City" was filmed in monochrome to imitate the style of the comic book.

Also filmed in 3D, "A Dame to Kill For" features Eva Green as Ava Lord, Jessica Alba as Nancy Callahan, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Johnny, Bruce Willis as John Hartigan, Juno Temple as Sally, Rosario Dawson as Gail, Jaime King as Goldie/Wendy, Mickey Rourke as Marv, Josh Brolin as Dwight McCarthy, Jamie Chung as Miho, and more.

The four stories look into the lives of four characters from the comic book:

  • Nancy Callahan played by Jessica Alba, a stripper who is struggling to cope with the suicide of John Hartigan
  • Marv played by Mickey Rourke, who regains consciousness on a highway surrounded by dead bodies and with no memory of how he got there
  • Johnny played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, a gambler whose games get him into unintended trouble
  • Ava Lord played by Eva Green, who is caught in a treacherous love triangle

Director Robert Rodriguez said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "There's something about the way Sin City works that I thought would lend itself very well to 3D because the images are so stripped down and abstract ... you almost can see it better in 3D. It'll be really cool."

Meanwhile, the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) banned a poster of the second "Sin City," which showed Eva Green in a state of undress. The censor board said that although Green seemed to wear a gown, the poster showed too much breast. For a movie with a first installment infamous because of ultra-violence, the poster is just as provocative.

"Sin City: A Dame to Kill For" will come to the big screen on Aug. 22 and 29 in the U.S. and U.K., respectively.
