Team USA's victory dramatically took place as the team brought home its first ever World Baseball Classic championship in the tournament's four editions. This Wednesday's season finale, on the other hand, gave Puerto Rico their second failure to bring home the championship since 2013 in their game against the Dominican Republic.

Team USA pitcher Marcus Stroman gave their opponent a hard time making him the game's MVP. Provided with left-center-field fence third inning by Ian Kinsler, Stroman did not give Puerto Rico any chance of fighting back.

The MVP's Wednesday performance was completely opposite as five days ago when he seemed to have no way to get through. "That's a great team over there [Puerto Rico]. It's an All-Star lineup, one through nine," said Marcus Stroman, according to New York Post.

The victory came days after Stroman's mom faced social media criticism for Marcus' decision to pitch for Team USA. In 2013, he expressed his desire to play for Puerto Rico, his mother's hometown yet changed his decision later on feeling the need to represent the USA.

Team USA will have a long time reining as the champion for the next tournament is expected to take place in 2021, as stated by Rob Manfred, WBC Commissioner. Although Olympic is set to be in 2020 and baseball to return to the game, Manfred believes that this year is a pretty good bet.

Puerto Rico, on the other hand, plans to go back to their homeland together to celebrate their performance regardless of the outcome of the game. They have decided before the game against Team USA that no matter the outcome of the game they are to fly back to their native island in celebration, as reported by Sports World News.

Puerto Ricans have shown very strong support to their athletes flying all the way to the venue to watch the game live and personally cheer for their team. There were also reports of stores running out of hair dye as classrooms dye their hair as a sign of their support for their team battling against Team USA.
