Monday, after much speculation and leaks, Mortal Kombat announced it will be making a new game. Mortal Kombat X will be the first Mortal Kombat game since 2011.

Series co-creator Ed Boon announced this morning on Twitter that the game would indeed be released in 2015.

Also, the game's first trailer has surfaced. It features the classic characters of Sub Zero and Scorpion fighting.

Mortal Kombat is an ultra-violent fighting and survival game that was a huge hit for arcade gamers in the 1990s. Besides traditional punches and kicks, the fighters have certain special moves and powers.

In Mortal Kombat X, players will be able to choose from different versions of each character. With each version of a character, different moves and fighting styles will be present.

The game will be released across several platforms. It will be playable on PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3 and Playstation 4.

Some accidental leaks by Amazon occurred recently. The online retailer prematurely listed Mortal Kombat X for sale prior to its announcement. They have since taken it down, but several websites were able to get the screenshot of the game being offered for sale.

Rapper Wiz Khalifa also tweeted the Mortal Kombat tagline "Who's Next?" on May 29.

Additionally, Boon had been tweeting a countdown on his Twitter account and many gamers thought this was a countdown to a new game release. The countdown ended Monday and that's when he announced the game.

Mortal Kombat X will take advantage of next-gen capabilities, but it is likely going to keep its 2D fighting style. Players will be able to see great detail to the pain they inflict on their opponents, like in previous versions. The game will show broken bones and damaged organs, a good reason why the game is given the "Mature" rating.
