Wednesday marks the two-months of protests of Chileans in the streets of the country of Chile. The theme of the protests is mainly for structural inequality in the country.

The government of the country is exerting great efforts to respond to the demands of the protestors. However, it is expected that Chile protests will continue and there will still be reports of abuses by the security force of the country.

The following are some of the important things that you need to know to understand the two-month-long Chile protests:

1. The reason why the protests are still on-going.

The protests had begun when many high school students of the country had arranged a protest in Santiago (the capital of Chile) on October 18, 2019. This protest had inspired other people to arrange protests in the country to express their concerns involving the current political situation and the country's economy.

Protests were held daily by citizens since the October 18 protest of Chile high school students.

After the term of the country's dictator Agusto Pinochet in 1990, the country was dubbed as one of the stable and prosperous nations. Currently, the case had changed because of the slow economic progress of the country. The slow growth of the Chilean government was seen as a result of the intense levels of revenue discontent and inequality among its citizens.

According to the currently released polls, approximately, 2/3 of the protesters believe that the protests should not end. They aim to induce the government to change the pension, health, and educational system of the country.

2. The response of the Government on the Issue.

The current president of the country had been releasing policies and other proposals in response to the ongoing protests by the Chilean population.

According to some opinions of Chileans regarding the proposals of Pinera, his proposal was only a temporary solution. One Chilean suggested that the entire constitution of the country to be rewritten.

3. Who will be responsible for the rewriting of the constitution?\

Some Chile protests are rallying for the complete revision of the current Constitution. The current Constitution of the country was the Constitution that was enforced by the administration of the previous dictator of the country.

The protesters were also requesting for their involvement in the rewriting of the new Constitution.

92.40% of the citizens had voted the affirmative side for the creation of a new Constitution in a consultation meeting held in the 345 municipalities in the country. 73.10% had voted for a constitutional convention of all the citizens of the country.

A referendum will happen on April 26th of the following year to determine if the citizens of the country will want a reformation of the Constitution and all other details of its rewriting.

4. The response of the security forces of the country.

There had been numerous cases of human rights violations by the country's security force in their efforts to control the multiple protests in the country.

The country's president promises to investigate the cases of abuses by the security forces of Chile through a series of investigations.

5. The continuity of protests even on holidays like Christmas and New Year.

It is expected that protests will continue to happen in the New Year. However, protests on Christmas and other holidays in the summer season will decrease.

Chile's protesters will continue their fight for equality and the reconstruction of the country's Constitution. Expect that the world will still be seeing news regarding their protests in the following year.
