Calling all football fans! Liga MX, Mexico's leading football league, will launch an eSports tournament dubbed, "eLIGA MX," on Friday as stadiums were closed and physical play was suspended amid the global COVID-19 pandemic, according to a recent article.

On Tuesday, sporting officials announced through a press release:

"Always thinking about innovation, about the satisfaction of the fans, This Friday the eLIGA MX will start, a virtual format, a replica of the Clausura 2020 tournament ", they said.

Following the footsteps of Italy and Spain, which brought their soccer tournament online, the virtual event serves as an awareness campaign to encourage the population to stay at home to avoid the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
