Among various generations in Latinx culture, Netflix's Selena Quintanilla's story is the most anticipated.

When Selena came out on the scene, Selena broke the barriers of both Spanish and English-speaking music. She became the Queen of Tejano Music. Selena became an icon from sold-out stadiums and best-selling albums. According to Seventeen, at the age of 23, she was murdered; her life story became a history of jealousy and tragedy.

Selena's story has already been told several times before, including a hit film starring Jennifer Lopez. This time, Selane's family is behind the story, and they are ready to reveal the truth with the world. Sounds more exciting? Here is everything you must know about Selena: The Series.

What will it be about?

As per Netflix, before Selena Quintanilla became the Queen of Tejano Music, she was a young girl from Texas with huge dreams and even a bigger voice. Selena: The Series is a two-part coming-of-age drama that explores the unique performer's journey as a young artist. Selena, with her family, started from singing to small gigs in Corpus Christi. And she became one of the most successful Latin artists in history.

Who is starring?

Christian Serratos, the Walking Dead star, and Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide will be playing the role of the legendary Selena. On the other hand, the younger version of her will be played by Madison Taylor Baez. The other stars in Selena: The Series include:

  • Seidy López as Marcella Quintanilla
  • Ricardo Chavira as Abraham Quintanilla
  • Noemi Gonzalez as Suzette Quintanilla
  • Gabriel Chavarria as A.B. Quintanilla

Besides these characters, the "On My Block" fans will be excited to see Julio Macias AKA Spooky as he joins in on the fun as Pete Astudillo, the songwriter in the series. Back in March 2020, Spooky told Seventeen, "That one's going to be a blast. It's going to be a 180 from OMB."

When will the release be?

On December 4, 2020, Selena: The Series will release the first part of the series. Netflix's Selena is split into two parts. The streaming giant revealed that date in a special teaser that features series star Christian Serratos in different Selene's iconic outfits.

On Tuesday, the teaser trailer for the series was released on Netflix, and the black-and-white visual shows of Selena while gracing on stage singing "Como La Flor." Ricardo Chavira, who played the late singer's father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr., is heard narrating the background, Fox News reported.

In a piece, Chavira says, "Do you trust your father? If you keep practicing, it's all going to pay off. Just watch. And when I see you on that stage, I'm still the six-year-old girl singing in our backyard."

Selena: The Series will focus on the Grammy-winner's meteoric rise to stardom as well as to her childhood and the path Selena and her family took in their journey for musical success. In 1995, over 60 million albums of Quintanilla-Perez had sold worldwide before she died at the hands of her fan club's former president.
