"The Queen's Gambit" is one of the most-watched shows right now on Netflix. But did you know that the critically acclaimed show is being star-led by a Latina?

"The Queen's Gambit" is a miniseries that focuses on the story of an orphan chess prodigy in Kentucky who grew up to be addicted to the strategic board game, drugs, and alcohol.

The main character is Beth Harmon, played by actress Anya Taylor-Joy, is partly an Argentine. The Argentine-British-American actress transferred to Buenos Aires as a baby and spoke Spanish until the age of six. It was then that her family moved to London.

Taylor-Joy talked about living in Argentina in an interview with Remezcla back in 2017. The actress also tackled the warmth of living in a country like Argentina when she was young, saying the sky is so big over the country.

"I had a really blessed childhood. When I moved to London, I definitely noticed how much I missed Argentina," Taylor-Joy noted in the Remezcla report.

The 24-year-old actress also said that she missed how everyone hugs one another in the South American country.

She said hugging and kissing a stranger on the cheek is one of the most normal things in the world.

Taylor-Joy gets to practice her Spanish in the television series in its fourth episode. It's when Beth travels to Mexico for a chess tournament in 1966.

In the fourth episode, Beth's adoptive mother, Alma, played by Marielle Heller, tells her that her longtime pen pal is meeting them at the airport when they land.

Remezcla noted that Latino viewers would enjoy the all play-by-play of the chess matches in Spanish.

Will There Be a Season 2?

After the television series' loud success ever since it aired on Netflix in October, everyone is quite excited to know if it would have a season two.

Los Angeles Times reported that the streaming giant has yet to give its approval. The television show is being promoted as a limited-run series.

But Taylor-Joy earlier talked about how there is nothing ever certain in the showbiz industry, adding that she is more than willing to reprise her role.

"If I've learned anything from being in this industry, it's never say never... I adore the character, and I would certainly come back if I was asked to, but I do think we leave Beth in a good place," Taylor-Joy said in an LA Times report.

Director-writer, Scott Frank, said that this was the single best experience he had in his 30-some-odd year career. Frank said that he is quite happy with the miniseries.

The show was the result of a collaboration between Frank and Allan Scott. It was an adaptation of Walter Tevis' 1983 novel.

The seven episodes of "The Queen's Gambit" showed the evolution of protagonist Beth as she battles her addiction and manages to snatch the title of a world-class chess player.
