A study revealed a new COVID-19 symptom that is rare but scary and deadly, according to doctors.

COVID-19 continues to spread and infect millions of people worldwide. It has already claimed the lives of more than 1.6 million people. As the days progress, researchers and scientists discover new things about the virus, especially its lingering effects and symptoms.

New COVID-19 Symptoms

It has been well-known and established that shortness of breath, cough, and sore throat are just a few of the many symptoms of those who tested positive for the virus. There are other patients also who remain asymptomatic or do not experience any symptoms.

According to the online magazine Knowridge Science Report, a new study conducted by a team of researchers from Hofstra University in New York showed a "rare, sight-stealing" infection that may be linked to COVID-19.

The study indicated that three COVID patients in a New York health system developed keratitis in the span of two months. It is an inflammation of the cornea, which caused an infection of the tissue or fluid in the eyeball known as endophthalmitis.

The researchers decided to conduct the study after the three COVID-19 patients developed endophthalmitis in such a short time. Experts noted that having three cases in a short period is exceedingly rare.

It also needed to be investigated since they were all tied to COVID-19 infection, and it is unusual for keratitis to progress quickly to endophthalmitis.

Doctors said that this symptom is very serious. In fact, one of the three patients died, the other one lost eyesight, while the third patient had to have an eye removed.

This new study just proved how serious the COVID-19 is and how deadly its side effects as well as its outside, edge-case permutations can be.

It can be remembered that the Latin Post previously reported that COVID-19 has several lingering effects. Another eye condition linked to COVID-19 is the conjunctivitis, also called pink eye, which is a minor infection.

Dr. Anthony Fauci Promised to Crush the COVID-19

During an online event on Friday with the Duke Science & Society, Dr. Anthony Fauci vowed to "crush" the coronavirus using the vaccines that received emergency use authorization from the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration.

Even though some are quite skeptical about the vaccines due to the speed at how it is developed, Fauci, the nation's top infectious disease expert, said there is nothing to worry about because these vaccines are the results of recent scientific advancements.

Fauci said: "Biomedical research and science have given us something that just a decade ago would have seemed unimaginable - to be able to have a new virus that we had never had experienced before being thrust upon us and (throwing) us into one of the most extraordinary, destructive pandemics in over 100 years."

He added that Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, who used the same technology in developing the vaccine called mRNA, ensured these scientific developments. These drugmakers will help not only the U.S. but the whole world to crush and end the global pandemic.
