Up until a few months ago, when you'd move, you just had to bribe your friends with lunch or free beer to come help you with the boxes and the lugging with furniture. Anno 2021, months into a pandemic that has worldwide consequences, moving houses isn't that easy anymore. In this article, we give you some tips on how to move safely, in a 'Covid-19 proof' way.

Plan everything out

Normally a move takes some planning, but especially nowadays you can't just wing it. If you have people that are 'in your bubble' that are the only people you see, you can put them to work putting everything in boxes or you can of course deal with a whole lot yourself. If you need more manpower to help you move, it might be handy to get everyone Covid-tested before. If everyone's negative, there's less chance of anyone getting infected. Of course, even with a negative test, we still recommend 'bubbles' not to mix. You can for instance ask your parents to help with putting boxes in your rental van, while your partner's parents are ready at your new place to accept the boxes and unpack.

Another thing to think about is making sure you rent your van in advance (Dutch: verhuiswagen huren), maybe even online, so you don't have to queue between many people and instead just accept your van. Many great car rental companies now even offer sharp prices because people aren't often renting cars and vans. Look for a reliable rental service, such as Diks, a company that has locations in Amsterdam, Amstelveen and Almere (Dutch: auto huren Almere).

Stay safe

We recommend also using the most well known protective equipment when moving. Let everyone wear a face mask and gloves and put big bottles of hand sanitizer in your old home and your new home, so everyone washes their hands every time they see the bottles. Safety first!

Work with a moving company

You can also choose to get everything done by a moving company. Some moving companies can get everything done without your help! Their employees can move all your boxes and drop them off at your new home without coming close to you at all.

Hopefully these tips will help you move to your new home in a safe way!
