As part of a global day of action and demanding the United States cease military funding of Israel, a protest was held Tuesday by the local chapter of the Palestinian Youth Movement in Downtown San Diego.

The group made their way through the streets of downtown San Diego and gathered at the Edward J. Schwartz Federal Building, located on Front Street, to voice out their demands. Based on the Palestinian Youth Movement, the U.S. provides close to $4 billion in foreign military aid to Israel yearly.

According to CBS8, Rinad Taha, a member of the PYM, wrote in an email that Palestinians and their allies are protesting due to the military funding given by the U.S., which enabled Israel to initiate violence and show Israeli aggression in Jerusalem and Gaza. She also added that they are taking to the streets of San Diego to uplift Palestinian demand for justice. Taha also mentioned that they are just a part of the protest in more than 50 cities across the United States and Canada and around 150 demonstrations around the world.

Moreover, one protest leader stated amid the crowd of demonstrators who gathered said that the U.S. is linked to the genocide of their people through the direct economic link between Israel's military and the U.S.' taxes.

Even a resident of San Diego, Annie O'Brien, who is also among the protesters who marched through the streets Tuesday, shared that she felt empathy for individuals who are struggling because of the violence. She also added that it is tragic especially that there are children and families who lose their homes and are punished without any violation.

Meanwhile, the San Diego protest was endorsed by 12 local, civil, and human rights organizations.

Violence Between Israel and Hamas Rulers

Hundreds of airstrikes were released by Israel's military since the violence between them and the Hamas rulers in Gaza broke off. The airstrikes are targeting militant infrastructures. Meanwhile, The Associated Press reported that more than 3,400 rockets had been fired by militants in Palestine.

Intense fights also started on May 10 after long-ranged rockets were fired towards Jerusalem by Gaza's militant Hamas rulers to support Palestine. This is also to protest the extreme policing of Israel around the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

The compound is known as a flashpoint, which is sacred to both Muslims and Jews. Jewish settlers also evicted dozens of Palestinian Families in the area.

Since the airstrikes started, the Gaza Health Ministry mentioned at least 213 Palestinians had been killed. This number includes 61 children and 36 women, with more than 1,440 individuals wounded. However, the data does not specify how many among them were fighters and how many were civilians.

President Biden mentioned in a phone call to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week that Israel has U.S. support in defending its right and the country, but he also expressed support for a ceasefire, The New York Times reported.
