Couple Charged with Murder of Children and Chad Daybell's Former Wife

Madison County Prosecuting Attorney Rob Wood confirmed that a grand jury indicted Lorri Vallow and Chad Daybell with conspiracy and murder in connection with the deaths of Joshua and Tylee, USA Today reported.

Lori Daybell was also arraigned on the charge of grand theft concerning collecting the social security benefit checks on behalf of her kids.

Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell were also charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder charge in the death of Daybell's former wife, Tamara Daybell.

Chad Daybell also faced charges for two counts of insurance fraud related to the life insurance policies that the Doomsday writer had with his former wife, in which he was a beneficiary.

Prosecutors confirmed that the couple would each face anywhere from life imprisonment to death penalty. According to the prosecutors, the couple committed the crimes between October 2016 to January 2020 in Madison County, Fremont, and elsewhere.

Fremont County prosecutor Lindsey Blake noted that due to the court's ongoing concerns and safety measures amid coronavirus pandemic, they were only given permission "to present information to the grand jury to review."

"I want to assure everyone that despite the delays, we have been working diligently to pursue justice for the victims in this case," said Blake.

The Fremont prosecutor also acknowledged the views and concerns of the community that the development for the said case may have been slow.

Death of Lori Vallow's Children and Chad Daybell's Former Wife

Fox News reported that Tylee and Joshua disappeared in September 2019 but were never reported as missing by their mother. Relatives of the children notified the authorities and promoted a law enforcement inquiry.

A court document unsealed in June revealed that a friend of Lori Vallow cooperated with authorities and told them that Vallow believed her children had turned into zombies.

The friend also alleged that Lori Vallow and Chad Daybell were part of a cult identified as the "Church of Firstborn." A body tightly wrapped in black plastic and covered in duct tape was discovered in Daybell's property, and a skull that matched with Tylee was also found.

Meanwhile, Chad Daybell's wife died in October 2019 with her obituary claiming that the lady passed away in her sleep. Chad Daybell declined to have an autopsy performed. But after the kids went missing and Chad married Lori a month later, authorities grew suspicious, and they had the body of Daybell's wife exhumed in December 2019.

The autopsy's results have not been released, but prosecutors said the manner of death should be classified as a homicide. The couple is scheduled for an appearance on the new charges on Wednesday morning.
