UFC ace Anthony Smith, invalidated Conor McGregor's reasons for losing his recent headliner bout with Dustin Poirier, arguing that "everyone who loses has an excuse." SB Nation reported that Smith made his comments on an interview with Sirius XM's Fight Nation.

It can be recalled that McGregor lost to Poirier during their match on T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on July 10. McGregor attributed his loss to the "stress fractures" he sustained before heading into his fight against Poirier.

Smith underscored that McGregor's comments about his pre-existing injury before his match were not a valid excuse for the outcome of his bout, the Irish Sun reported. Smith also noted that there are were no single athlete on the UFC roster that goes into matches 100 percent healthy.

Smith then mentioned his bout with Glover Texeira, where he noted that his friends knew that his hand was broken going into the match. However, he did not mention anything about his injury, arguing that having those injuries was not an excuse.

Smith believed that McGregor and Poirier were on the same level of playing field on the UFC 264 match on July 10.

"I would say Connor wasn't anymore hurt than Dustin was going into that fight," Smith said, disputing that McGregor was not more injured than Poirier. "That's my perspective on it from an athlete," Smith continued.

The UFC ace also blasted on the post-fight comments surrounding McGregor's injuries, contending that those statements were manufactured for the general public. It can be remembered that UFC President Dana White recently noted that McGregor suffered chronic arthritis in his ankles.

"To the general public, it [injury] makes sense that people would buy into that excuse but Conor knows that all of us [athletes] don't buy it because we're all hurt too," Smith contended.

Apart from Anthony Smith, UFC Vegas 32's Darrick Minner also blasted on McGregor, debating that poor training led to his injury.

"I'm not sparring without shin guards and kicking people's knees hard without shin guards. That is what he said he was doing. That's just poor training if you ask me," Minner noted. "It [fracture] could have played a factor in his leg-breaking. But you [McGreggor] kept throwing it so you obviously weren't too worried about it. So that's on him," Minner contended.

UFC President Dana White on Conor McGregor's Return

MMA Mania reported that McGregor's broken leg sidelined a year for more than a year.

"It's going to take him [McGregor] a year to recover from this one before he can come back, so I don't know," Dana White noted in the interview.
