Vice President Kamala Harris will likely face an uphill climb if she wants to succeed President Joe Biden as recent poll numbers show her favorability at just 44.3 percent.

According to poll aggregator Real Clear Politics, Harris' unfavorability is slightly higher at 46.3 percent. The sinking favorability comes after some weeks of news reports surrounding her responses to the border crisis and accounts of toxic work culture in her office, New York Post reported.

Her approval rate comes behind President Joe Biden, with 51.8 percent of favorability compared to the 42.8 percent who disapprove of his job performance.

A Morning Consult-Politico poll released on Wednesday, July 21, also showed that more registered voters view the vice president unfavorably than like her.

Forty-seven percent of registered voters asked had an unfavorable view of Kamala Harris compared to 45 percent favorable view. The survey included 1,997 registered voters and was done between July 16 and July 18.

Kamala Harris on Border Crisis

Kamala Harris has traveled last month to the southern border and decided not to visit the Rio Grande Valley or another area facing the huge impact of the migration influx, The Hill reported.

The vice president had instead traveled to El Paso, Texas, without making any policy announcements while declaring her appearance productive.

During her visit, she resorted to "finger-pointing" and criticized former President Donald Trump. Harris has also met girl migrants aged nine to 16 and visited other immigration facilities, BBC News reported.

Kamala Harris said that handling the border crisis cannot be reduced to a political issue since it also involved children, families, and "suffering."

Critics quickly reacted and said that the vice president should have visited a tent complex at nearby Fort Bliss, where migrant children are being held.

Kamala Harris was met by pro-Trump protesters waving flags and banners. One protester had a sign that asks the vice president how many little girls need to be raped for this to be a crisis.

Fort Bliss detention center has been reported to have cases of sexual abuse, COVID, and lice outbreaks. Children were also reportedly being served undercooked meat, with sandstorms occurring around the area.

Toxic Culture in A Workplace

The Insider recently interviewed 12 former Harris staffers about their experience working for the vice president when she served as a district attorney in San Francisco from 2004 until 2011, as California's attorney general, and her Senate stint.

Some staffers had described Kamala Harris as unpredictable and at times demeaning to her staff over the years. They said that the vice president would often hang up the phone on her aides and berated them when she felt they did not prepare enough for briefings.

Insider reported that Harris also had a reputation for churning through interns and lower-level staff. One staffer said that they sought therapy to resolve trauma due to the on-the-job abuse.

Meanwhile, others had praises for Harris. Some former staffers said that the vice president could be demanding but no more so than other high-powered politicians in the White House.

Jeff Tsai, a lawyer and a former top aide to Harris in the California attorney general's office, said he does not appreciate the narrative.

Tsai noted that all of the paces they have been through with Kamala Harris were the same pace that the vice president had put herself through.
