Amir Khan failed to land a bout against Floyd Mayweather Jr. earlier this year, but the former light welterweight champion is still hoping that he will get a shot against the reigning pound-for-pound king, possibly next spring.

In an interview with Sky Sports on Friday, Khan, who was the frontrunner in the race to land a fight against Mayweather earlier this year before Floyd Jr. opted to face Maidana, said that his dream bout will still happen in the future.

Khan said, though, that he is not expecting to get the chance to face Mayweather this year since the welterweight and light middleweight champion is set to fight in September, and the former Briton champion can't fight until December because of religious reasons.

The 27-year-old Bolton, England native is planning to fight in November or December before chasing Mayweather again, and Khan said that he is looking for a big fight later this year.

"We want to fight the big guys the top names in boxing," Khan said. "The next time that I want to fight is around November or December. Ramadan is coming up so I am going to spend time at home and enjoy that month."

Among the top fighters that Khan is targeting aside from Mayweather are Juan Manuel Marquez and Manny Pacquiao, who was his former sparring partner when he was still under Freddie Roach.

"I am looking at the likes of Marquez and Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather -- they are the big names and that is where I belong fighting the top guys. There are talks about Manny Pacquiao happening in the future -- may be next," Khan said.

Pacquiao is set to return to the ring on November 22 in Macau. Khan was previously mentioned as a possible foe, but it remains to be seen whether or not the Briton will get a shot against the former pound-for-pound king.
