Will Smith and Chris Rock made headlines on Sunday after the two caused a scene on the stage of Oscars 2022.

According to CNN, the encounter between the stars occurred when Rock was presenting the awards for Best Documentary. At this moment, Rock joked: "Jada I Love You, 'GI Jane 2,' can't wait to see it."

The outlet furthered that the camera then panned to Pinkett Smith, Will Smith's wife, who rolled her eyes as she sat next to the actor.

Will Smith then walked toward him on stage and appeared to smack Rock in the face.

According to Television and Radio host Gunz, the real reason why Smith got violent against Rock was that Jada Pinkett has alopecia.

Gunz also noted that Pinkett was public about her condition which resulted in hair loss.

According to CNN reporter Stephanie Elam, she heard the hit made by Smith to Rock's face.

The report also noted that Smith said: "Keep my wife's name out of your f***ing mouth," to which Rock responded: "Oh Wow."

After the incident, the Oscars venue was filled with silence, and Rock suddenly talked on the microphone.

Rock then underscored that Smith hitting him was the greatest night in the history of television.

The viewers at home were also able to witness the encounter between Smith and Rock.

However, CNN noted that censors muted the verbal part where Smith allegedly cussed Rock.

According to Billboard, Pinkett Smith was not the only subject of Rock's jokes during the night.

The outlet noted that Rock also made fun of Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz for being nominated the same evening. He also joked about Denzel Washington having said, "King Lear ain't got nothing on me."

Will Smith Apologizes to Oscars Upon Receiving Best Actor Award

After the incident, Will Smith then tearfully accepted his Best Actor award for his role as Richard Wiliams in the film "King Richard."

In his speech, Smith apologized to Oscars without mentioning Rock.

"I want to apologize to the Academy, I want to apologize to my fellow nominees... This is a beautiful moment and I'm not crying for winning an award. It's not about winning an award for me. It's about being able to shine a light on all of the people ... Art imitates life," Smith underscored, per Billboard.

Smith furthered that love will make people do crazy things, comparing what was said about Richard Williams.

He then thanked the Academy and said that he hopes to get invited again following the incident.
