President Joe Biden is "confident" that his son Hunter Biden did not break any laws even as a federal probe into his youngest son's foreign business dealings continues, the White House chief of staff said Sunday.

Ron Klain appeared on ABC's "This Week" two days after it was reported that a federal grand jury was hearing testimony in recent months about Hunter's cash flow while serving on the board of Burisma, a Ukraine energy company, according to Daily Mail.

Klain vehemently denied that the White House reached out to the Justice Department about the probe against Hunter. The investigation is being conducted out of the president's home state of Delaware.

The White House chief of staff noted that the president was "confident that his son didn't break the law." However, he also recognized that it was a matter to be decided by the Justice Department, adding that no one in the White House had any involvement in the matter.

Klain was also asked about a recent report revealing entities controlled by Hunter Biden and uncle James Biden were paid around $5 million over the course of 14 months by a Chinese energy firm.

Federal Investigation on Hunter Biden

According to  Fox News, Hunter Biden is under federal investigation for possible violations of tax, money laundering, and foreign lobbying laws through his business relationships abroad.

Hunter's business ties with Burisma have raised questions. He joined the Ukrainian gas company's board when his father was vice president of the United States.

It caused concerns about a possible conflict of interest with Joe Biden being deeply involved in U.S. policy toward Ukraine during the Obama administration. Hunter also had "multimillion-dollar" financial ties to CEFC China Energy.

Meanwhile, Attorney General Merrick Garland has not shed any light publicly on the investigation.

Last Wednesday, Elie Honig, a top legal analyst at CNN, said it was possible that Hunter Biden could be indicted over his foreign business dealings, The Hill reported.

Honig described the probe as a "very real, very substantial" investigation of potentially serious federal crimes.

Hunter Biden's Laptop

Hunter Biden left behind a laptop at a computer repair shop in Delaware in April 2019, which contained a hard drive with a trove of emails detailing Joe Biden's youngest son's foreign business deals.

According to New York Post, multiple news outlets had confirmed the existence and authenticity of the laptop, including The Washington Post and The New York Times.

Fifty-one former U.S. intelligence officials earlier warned that the information on the hard drive might be misinformation from the Russians, planning to influence the 2020 election.

However, it was reported that financial documents were found on the laptop that matched records and other documents obtained in a probe by Republican senators Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson.

Johnson accused the mainstream media of hiding Hunter's business dealings to protect his father before the presidential election.

In an interview with Fox News' "Sunday Morning Features," Johnson said the media "covered it up," resulting in Biden being elected the president.
