The Mexican navy has arrested "El Senoron," an alleged cell leader of the Jalisco cartel, in the resort city of Mazatlan in Mexico's state of Sinaloa.

According to Daily Mail, Francisco Javier Rodriguez Hernandez, alias "El Senoron," was captured in front of the Torres Veleros condominium Friday without a single shot.

Excelsior reported that El Senoron is the leader of the criminal group "Los Colombianos," who is working for the Jalisco cartel. He allegedly oversaw the Jalisco cartel's operations in Mexico's central state of Morelos.

The Morelos Attorney General's Office said El Senoron is one of the main generators of violence in the state, engaging in different activities "in the metropolitan area and south of the entity."

Jalisco Cartel Cell Leader El Senoron Arrested in Mexico

Francisco Javier Rodriguez Hernandez was reportedly wanted for aggravated homicide and was accused of being behind the murders of three doctors, who were shot dead in the city of Puente de Ixtla in Morelos on April 12, 2020.

Two other suspects linked to the killings were already arrested on June 16, 2020. A $25,000 reward for any information leading to El Senoron's capture was offered in July 2021.

The Attorney General's Office has also accused El Senoron of extortion and organized crime. According to Borderland Beat, El Senoron was flown out to the state of Guanajuato following his arrest to be presented before a federal judge.

Apart from carrying out extortions and running drug dealing spots, El Senoron was also allegedly involved in distributing drugs in the municipalities of Amacuzac, Cuernavaca, Jiutepec, Puente de Ixtla, Emiliano Zapata, Cuautla, and Cocoyoc in Morelos.

He was also reportedly involved with a Jalisco cartel smuggling route transporting drugs from Mexico to the United States.

Before taking up criminal activities, El Senoron reportedly enlisted as a member of the National Action Party's youth wing, handing out flyers between 2012 and 2015.

El Mencho and the Jalisco Cartel

The Jalisco New Generation Cartel or Cartel de Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG) is considered one of Mexico's most dangerous and powerful drug cartels.

It reportedly had more than 5,000 members and was allegedly involved in mass graves, kidnappings, acid baths, and video recording beheadings.

The Jalisco cartel had risen to power after Mexican security forces killed former Sinaloa Cartel capo Ignacio Coronel, known as "Nacho," in July 2010.

Nacho's death resulted in the split of the Sinaloa Cartel into two factions - "La Resistencia" and "Torcidos." The "Torcidos" became what is now the Jalisco cartel, which has since expanded rapidly in Mexico.

The Jalisco cartel is currently being led by Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera Cervantes.

El Mencho continues to evade capture, and the U.S. government offered a $10 million reward for information leading to his arrest. He remains to be the most elusive criminal and is reportedly hiding in Mexico.
