Canelo Alvarez surpassed Floyd Mayweather, the top paid boxer of all time, after the Mexican boxer was able to secure a place in the list of Forbes' highest-paid athletes of 2022.

This year, Alvarez was able to land in the 8th place on the list, surpassing Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady and NBA superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Floyd Mayweather was not among the top 10 highest-paid athletes this year.

Canelo's earnings amounting to $90 million between May 1 last year and May 1 of this year was enough for him to secure a spot on the 2022 Forbes' list, per ESPN Ringside.

This year, Canelo was able to earn around $40 million or more from his two pay-per-view victories last May and November. Forbes noted that Alvarez's most recent bout with Dmitry Bivol was not included when he was ranked in this year's list.

During Forbes' monitoring of Alvarez's wealth, the outlet pointed out that the Mexican boxer earned $85 million in boxing and at least $5 million out of the ring.

Canelo Alvarez Net Worth 2022: Earnings of the Mexican Boxer

Although Canelo Alvarez garnered a massive paycheck from May 1, 2021 to May 1, 2022, that is only a fraction of his overall wealth.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the Mexican Boxer's net worth this year is $140 million.

His wealth came from his career in boxing, including contracts he signed with different companies throughout his boxing life.

Canelo Alvarez, born Saul Alvarez, signed a five-year fight contract with Oscar de la Hoya's promotion company DAZN. Reports claim that this deal amounted to $365 million.

Between June 2018 and June 2019, Alvarez earned around $95 million from his empire. He then earned another $40 million 12 months after that.

Canelo's notable boxing matches are with Sugar Shane Mosely, Floyd Mayweather, and Amir Khan.

Alvarez was able to earn $1.2 million in his bout with Mosley, $12 million with Mayweather, and $25 million with Khan.

The Mexican boxer is also earning outside the boxing ring through his businesses and brand deals. He is known to have a "lucrative" partnership with Hennessy, and he also owns a taco restaurant in Mexico. Last year, Alvarez also mentioned that he would open his chain of gas stations.

Mexican Boxer Canelo Alvarez

Saul Alvarez, also known as Canelo Alvarez in the ring, started boxing when he was 13 years old, following in the footsteps of his older brothers. At the age of 15, his skills made him win the silver medal in the Mexican Junior Championship.

He debuted as a boxer at the age of 15 because no one wanted to fight him at that time. Even though he brawled with older fighters, he reportedly knocked out most of his opponents.

One of Alvarez's most notable fights was with Amir Khan, where he defended the WBS, Ring, and lineal middleweight titles against the said boxer.
