SNAP benefits 2022 in Texas for July has been announced to provide help to about 1.4 million Texas households.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott announced that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission will be allotting more than $301.8 million in emergency Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program food benefits for the month of July.

Abbott said in his office's press release that Texans across the state will continue to receive support with the extension of emergency SNAP benefits. He added that every family in the Lone Star State will have access to nutritious meals with the work of HHSC.

The emergency allotments are on top of more than $7.2 billion in benefits previously provided to Texans since April 2020.

SNAP Benefits Texas

Texas HHSC has also sent out the SNAP benefits for June to the recipients' Texas Lone Star Cards, which is the state's version of the federal EBT card.

Go Banking Rates noted that the Texas Lone Star Card can also be used online, but it cannot be used at any store that offers online shopping.

SNAP benefits eligibility in Texas is based on household income and resources. Most people between the ages 16 and 59 must follow work rules.

Texas work rules noted that to receive the benefits one must be looking for a job or be in an approved work program. In addition, if you have a job, you cannot quit without good reason.

Texas also has a program that simplifies the SNAP application process for households, wherein all members are either older adults or people with disabilities. It is called Texas Simplified Application Project. The program gives three years of benefits instead of six months.

The distribution of SNAP benefits in Texas depend on the recipients' Eligibility Determination Group number, based on its last digit. It is usually deposited onto Lone Star Cards over 15 days, starting on the first day of the month.

SNAP Benefits July 2022

Emergency allotments were authorized under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to help address temporary food needs during the pandemic for SNAP households, according to another Go Banking Rates.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture noted that emergency allotments amounts are equal to the maximum benefit for the household size, deducting their monthly base benefit.

State SNAP agencies can release EA payments on a month-to-month basis to all SNAP households that normally receive less than the maximum benefit.

Households that are at or near the maximum SNAP benefit receive little or no additional support.

Emergency allotments can be made as long as there is a national public health emergency and the state placed a state-level emergency declaration.

The current public health emergency is set to expire on July 15.

Under FFCRA, states with an approved extension for a covered summer period can issue P-EBT benefits no matter the student's school status, COVID-related absences, and virtual learning days.
