California Woman Tries to Abduct Newborn Baby

The sheriff's department said Jesenea Miron entered a patient's hospital room and identified herself as a nurse. Police added that the California woman tried to take the patient's newborn infant while she was in their room, San Francisco Gate reported.

Miron fled without the infant after she was confronted by hospital staff, who informed the security about the incident. Police eventually tracked her down in her home in Moreno Valley. Police said they also found other items of "evidentiary value" inside Miron's home.

In a statement, the hospital's CEO, Jennifer Cruikshank, said the medical facility has "multiple layers of security" for the protection and safety of patients and staff.

Cruikshank noted that they were thankful that those systems and their vigilant staff were able to stop Miron. The hospital's CEO said an investigation is underway to determine how the suspect was able to enter the patient's room and "interacted with the family."

Cruikshank added that they were also working with the family to address their concerns and ensure their emotional well-being.

Jesenea Miron was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center. Her bail has been set at $1 million. It was still unclear if Miron had already entered a plea to the charge against her or if she had managed to get herself an attorney.

Kidnapping of Another Child in California

A 3-month-old baby was allegedly kidnapped from his family's apartment last April as his grandmother was unloading groceries from her car.

But the San Jose Police Department immediately found Baby Brandon after several hours, and he was taken to a local hospital for an evaluation. NBC News reported that three suspects were arrested.

One of the suspects was identified as 43-year-old Yesenia Guadalupe Ramirez, who is a friend of the family, according to San Jose Police spokesman Sgt. Christian Camarillo. She became a person of interest after her story changed several times during the interview process.

According to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), 327 missing infants under six months of age related to healthcare occurred in the U.S. from 1964 to November 2020.

Of those abducted children, NCMEC noted that 140 were taken from healthcare facilities, 142 from homes, and 47 were kidnapped in other locations.
