Ricky Martin may now be able to breathe more easily, as his nephew's domestic abuse and incest case against him were dismissed by a local court in Puerto Rico.

The nephew previously claimed he dated his superstar singer uncle for a few months but broke off their relationship. However, he claimed that Martin would continue harassing him after the breakup.

The Puerto Rican superstar could have faced 50 years in prison based on Puerto Rican law about incest. However, his lawyers petitioned that the case be dismissed. His lawyers then released a statement, stating that the court did not extend his nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, a temporary protection order as they had anticipated.

The statement also said that the accuser told the court he decided to drop the case "without any outside influence or pressure," adding that the decision to dismiss the case was his and his alone. News.com also confirmed that the accuser stated that he was satisfied with his legal representation.

The lawyers' joint statement also said that the case "was never anything more than a troubled individual making false allegations" and that the accuser never had anything to substantiate his claims, according to People Magazine.

Ricky Martin Releases Statement, Said Case Was 'So Painful'

Following the case's dismissal, Ricky Martin finally broke his silence. He released a statement and called his 21-year-old nephew's claims against him "painful" and devastating." He said he needed to talk to begin his healing process.

The "Livin' La Vida Loca" singer also said that due to Puerto Rican law, he was also unable to speak out for two weeks. He then thanked God that the claims by his nephew were proven to be false. Martin explained that the allegations had been so painful to him and his family and friends and that he does not wish it for anybody.

Ricky Martin then addressed his accuser himself, stating that he wishes his accuser the best and wishes that he finds help so he can start a new life. The singer also expressed his wish that his accuser would not hurt anybody else.

Finally, he thanked his fans, who have always believed in him. He added that he will "heal" through music, according to Yahoo! News.

Who Was Ricky Martin's Accuser?

The nephew, 21-year-old Dennis Yadiel Sanchez, filed a complaint against his 50-year-old uncle, Ricky Martin, with the judge initially siding with Sanchez and issued a restraining order. His name as the accuser was protected by Puerto Rican law until it came out that he was, in fact, the singer's nephew.

Sanchez is reportedly the son of his step-sister. Ricky Martin's brother, Eric Martin, claimed their nephew had "mental problems."

Nonetheless, Sanchez alleged that the Puerto Rican music icon dated him for several months. After their breakup, he claimed that Martin would continue stalking and harassing him. This forced him to file a restraining order. However, the nephew has now dropped his claims, and the court dismissed his case.
