People outside of Mexico often only hear about the actions of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. However, his wife, Beatriz Gutierrez Muller, is just as fiery as her husband.

While she is officially the first lady of Mexico, she rejected the title because she said it had no concrete roles or functions.

Gutierrez Muller was born in Mexico City to Juan Gutierrez Canet and Nora Beatriz Muller Bentjerodt, who was a Chilean of German descent.

Before she became the first lady of Mexico, even though she rejected the title, she graduated with a bachelor's degree in communications at the Ibero-American University Puebla in 1998.

She continued to have a master's degree at the same university in 2002. Beatriz Gutierrez Muller also became a writer, publishing several written works, including La Tierra Prometida. She was also a journalist, working for El Universal after graduating from the Ibero-American University Puebla.

Beatriz Gutierrez Muller's Marriage With Mexico's President and Having a Son Together

Before his marriage to Beatriz Gutierrez Muller, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador was previously married to Rocio Beltran Medina. They were married from 1979 until she died in 2003.

The single Lopez Obrador met his second wife, Gutierrez Muller, when she first joined the government during the period when he was the head of government for Mexico City. They started dating and eventually got married on October 16, 2006.

Eventually, the two were blessed with a son, Jesus Ernesto Lopez Gutierrez, who was born in April 2007. Unfortunately, their son also became a target of fat jokes online.

The 15-year-old was called "el chocoflan" online, ridiculing him as something as soft as chocolate flan. Both parents came to the aid of their son.

According to Border Report, the Mexican president said that those calling his son names online have a problem with him and not with his son.

Beatriz Gutierrez Muller Wanted to Become a Different Kind of First Lady

Even though Beatriz Gutierrez Muller rejected the title of First Lady of Mexico, she still attends to the position's many ceremonial duties. These include a recent visit to the White House, meeting President Joe Biden and Jill Biden, and attending various functions.

When her husband was still campaigning for president, Gutierrez Muller said she wanted to be a different kind of the first lady. However, according to Agencia EFE, she also said she will loosely adhere to Mexico's political traditions.

As Mexico's first lady, she heads the country's National Honorary Council for the Coordination of Historical and Cultural Heritage. She also fulfills the role of honorary president of the Comprehensive Family Development System (DIF). However, it is an unpaid post and serves mainly a ceremonial function.

Much like her U.S. counterpart, Jill Biden, Beatriz Gutierrez Muller continues to teach despite her husband having the highest office in the land. She does not receive a government salary, but she still continues her work on cultural affairs.
