A Minnesota mom died after her ex-husband brutally beat him in front of their young children earlier this week.

The 31-year-old suspect is Anders Odegaard. He has been charged with second-degree murder for the death of his ex-wife, Carissa Odegaard.

Following their father's arrest, police interviewed the three children who witnessed Tuesday's deadly assault inside their father's house in Warren, Minnesota.

According to their 8-year-old son, his mom and dad were arguing about taking the children to church. Court documents noted that the Minnesota mom wanted to take their children to church. However, Anders did not want her to.

Minnesota Mom Beaten to Death While Holding 2-Year-Old Son

According to court documents, three brothers, ages 2, 8, and 9, saw everything since they were inside the house during the attack.

Their two other siblings did not see the incident as they were inside their mom's car. The children reportedly stayed with their father the night before, and their mom only came to pick them up the next day.

One of the children told police that their father grabbed a knife or spatula and struck his ex-wife. Another child told authorities that their parents were "tackling" each other. He also saw that his mom was cut and his father was choking her, who told him to call 911.

One of the children also revealed that there was blood all over. Their father stepped over their mom and tapped on her foot, but she did not respond. All of this happened while Carissa Odegaard was still holding their youngest 2-year-old son.

This was when the children decided to take their brother from their mom's body and fled outside the house. Two of them managed to flag down a passerby who called 911.

Deputies soon arrived at Anders Odegaard's home and found the father just wearing boxer shorts. Anders told police officers that "I don't feel right."

The Minnesota mom was immediately taken to a hospital in Fargo, North Dakota, where doctors found she had "no significant brain function" and was soon declared dead.

According to NBC News, Anders was identified in the filing as a state attorney for Mercer County, North Dakota. However, it is still not clear if he still worked there. He was booked into the Marshall County Jail following his arrest.

People reported that his license as a lawyer was still valid at the Minnesota Bar, and there were no complaints against him until he attacked his ex-wife.

Minnesota Mom's Grandfather Remembers His Oldest Granddaughter

Carissa Odegaard's grandfather told KVLY that they were all present, including her children, when the doctors announced her death at the hospital.

He described the Minnesota mom as his oldest granddaughter and the sweetest person in the world. He said she did not deserve what happened to her and that it was traumatic for all of them.

He then asked for prayers to help them go through this tragedy. The couple had five children together, and a court filing revealed that Carissa Odegaard had sole physical custody of the children following their divorce last year. However, the court also granted both of them joint legal custody.
