The World Cup friendly match between Brazil and Tunisia was ruined when the crowd at the Parc des Princes has thrown a banana and other stuff at Brazilian players while celebrating a goal.

The banana was thrown toward Richarlison, a Black forward for Tottenham Hotspur, and the other Brazilians who were celebrating near one of the corner flags after their team's second goal in a 5-1 victory.

They were also thrown other things, including something that looks like a water bottle, ESPN reported.

Brazil Expressed Their Stand Against Racism During the Game

Following the Richarlison banana incident, Brazilian players posed in front of a sign that read, "Without our black players, we wouldn't have stars on our shirt."

It refers to the five stars above the team crest that stand for their five World Cup victories. Brazil was using the game to make a statement against racism.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) expressed its dismay at what transpired and reiterated its commitment to "fight against racism" in response to the occurrence and the federation president said that the incident was shocking.

"Once again, I publicly express my rejection. This time I saw it with my own eyes. This shocks us. We must always remember that we are all the same, regardless of color, race, or religion," CBF President Ednaldo Rodrigues said.

According to the president, fighting racism is not a cause, but a "fundamental change to wipe this type of crime from the planet." He also said he will never stop saying that severe punishments are needed, according to The Athletic.

Racism Targets 50% of Players During 2020-2022 Finals, Says FIFA

FIFA, which oversees football around the world, has put out a report on how players were treated on social media during Euro 2020 and AFCON 2022.

According to the survey, during the competitions, nearly half of the competitors saw homophobic and racial comments on social media. Together, FIFA and FIFPRO released the report on June 18 at the United Nations International Day for Countering Hate Speech

During the finals of the two tournaments, artificial intelligence kept an eye on more than 400,000 social media posts. The survey showed that more than half of the players were attacked, and most of the insults came from people in their own country.

Abusers went after English players Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka in a special way. The players were targeted after failing to score penalties against Italy in the Euro 2020 championship game, as reported by the Republic World.

Meanwhile, security guards at the stadium failed to track down the individual who hurled the banana onto the pitch, according to Brazilian media.

Additionally, the game was momentarily stopped twice to ask the spectators to stop pointing laser pens at Brazilian players.

Brazil played in the game as their final warm-up before traveling to Qatar for the World Cup, in which they will compete in Group G against Serbia, Cameroon, and Switzerland.
