In a chilling revelation, San Francisco authorities revealed new details on the attack by QAnon believer and right-wing conspiracy theorist David DePape on Paul Pelosi, the husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Police revealed that he wanted to break the kneecaps of the California representative in order to show other members of congress that their actions have consequences.

According to the chilling federal complaint, DePape carried zip ties, tape, and a rope in a backpack. He then broke into the Pelosi home in San Francisco early Friday morning and found Paul Pelosi sleeping upstairs. He then forced the elderly businessman to wake up and asked "Where is Nancy?"

Attack on Paul Pelosi Was Politically Motivated

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins stated during a press conference that DePape specifically targeted the Pelosi house and Speaker Nancy Pelosi herself. She added that the attack was politically motivated and that the public should "watch the words that we say and turn down the volume of our political rhetoric."

Jenkins told the Associated Press that DePape researched the Pelosi home in advance and was not something done at the spur of the moment.

The attack somewhat amplified the already-toxic political climate ahead of the upcoming November 8 midterm elections. Several right-wing groups have already posted memes mocking the Pelosis, with some Republican candidates like Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake making fun of the security at the Pelosi house.

Charges have been filed against DePape, including attempted homicide, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, burglary, and other felonies.

Elon Musk Shared False Information on Paul Pelosi Attack, Immediately Deletes It

The admission by DePape, as well as the federal affidavit, have debunked several right-wing conspiracy theories, including one shared by now-Twitter owner Elon Musk, who deleted his tweet that included false information on the attack on Paul Pelosi.

According to The Business Insider, Musk shared a link from the Santa Monica Observer, known for peddling debunked conspiracy theories. The headline read "The Awful Truth: Paul Pelosi Was Drunk Again, And In a Dispute With a Male Prostitute Early Friday Morning."

Controversial Georgia House Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene backed Musk up and stated that Pelosi's attacker is his "friend" and added that "the media is the source of misinformation."

The damage had already been done, however, as the link was retweeted more than 30,000 times and liked more than 110,000 times before it was deleted less than an hour later. The tweet itself was posted by QAnon and right-wing accounts on multiple social media platforms.

According to The Guardian, the now-deleted Musk tweet came as a response to a tweet by Hillary Clinton who wrote a scathing attack on Republicans for spreading "hate and deranged conspiracy theories" that emboldened a man like DePape to attack Paul Pelosi.

Musk replied to that Clinton tweet stating, "there is a tiny possibility there might be more to this story than meets the eye" and then shared that link from the faux newspaper, the Santa Monica Observer. The Twitter owner also received much backlash for sharing such false information, with many pointing out that Musk owning Twitter is a red flag in itself.
