Fourth of July should be a time of blissful merriment, but for many it's a stress inducer. So instead of spending your holiday party planning and working like a dog why not hit the road and go to one of the many amazing parties being held across the nation.

If you're a pyromaniac, then New York City's annual Macy's fireworks display will be hard to resist. Seating is free, but you'll have to arrive very, very early to ensure that you get the best possible vantage point. Other New York City holiday hotspots include blowout parties at the legendary Webster Hall.

While not specifically Fourth themed, Webster Hall has a Daft Punk tribute night popping off at 10 p.m. sharp in the Grand Ballroom. At 11 p.m. Fool's Gold presents Nick Catchdubs & Friends in the more intimate studio area. TimeOut New York has other great suggestions including rooftop parties and a pig roast.

But if the hustle and bustle of New York isn't your cup of tea, or if you just would rather stay far away from the East River (over which the fireworks are set off) then why not head out west for a few days? That's because Flagstaff, Arizona has been named America's best Fourth of July town by Travel + Leisure readers.

While the hyper-conservative climate surrounding Arizona may strike some revelers as awkward and bizarre, Flagstaff sure has plenty of festivities planned for all who attend, including a downtown parade, a fun run and a free concert put on by the city's symphony orchestra, according to Arizona Central.

But what Fourth of July would be complete without a grandiose Midwestern celebration? Chicago's world famous Navy Pier will be putting on quite the show. It actually has fireworks planned throughout the summer including the 4th and a Freedom Fest. The Cirque Shanghai Warriors are also in town that day. The aerial and martial arts show will surely dazzle.

New Orleans is a city that knows how to party, as evidenced by their Mardi Gras events. They also like to play on the 4th of July as well. If you're in town why not go on a River Cruise like the Creole Queen. The Audubon Institute is also offering discounts to its Aquarium and Insectarium, according to New Orleans Online.

We can't list celebration information for every city in America. But wherever you are in the 50 states there's bound to be a party near you.
