The race for the Arizona governor's seat was one of the most contentious races during the midterms. It pitted Kari Lake, a former local news reporter who has since turned into a MAGA darling supported by former President Donald Trump, against Katie Hobbs, the current Arizona secretary of state.

Much of the national media attention was on Lake, as she berated the media and Senator John McCain and also spreaded false claims that the 2020 presidential elections were stolen from Trump. However, it was the largely silent Hobbs who emerged victorious in the elections.

Who Is Katie Hobbs? Her Path to Being the Governor of Arizona

The governor-elect of Arizona was born on December 29, 1969. According to her official Arizona government profile, she started her life of service as a church volunteer before becoming a social worker. Her next job was as the chief compliance officer at one of the largest domestic violence centers in the U.S.

Katie Hobbs has earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in social work from Northern Arizona University and Arizona State University, respectively. According to LifeStyle UG, she started engaging in social work around 1993 and has tackled various problems like homelessness, behavioral health, and domestic violence.

She entered the political field in 2010 when she ran for and won a seat in the Arizona House of Representatives election. Two years later, she ran for a seat in the Arizona Senate, winning that race too. As a state senator, Katie Hobbs served as the minority leader in a then-red state like Arizona.

On March 2017, Hobbs announced that she would be running for the position that would eventually thrust her into the national spotlight, the Arizona Secretary of State. During the 2018 elections, she took on businessman Steve Gaynor and won a very tight race.

As secretary of state, she was the one who oversaw the results of the 2020 presidential elections, which of course, flipped Arizona blue as Joe Biden defeated incumbent Donald Trump. However, this did not sit too well with the former president and attacked the state's Democratic secretary of state, claiming that he won and not Biden.

But even with Republican-backed recounts and audits, it still showed Biden won, and the now more prominent Katie Hobbs decided to run for governor, taking on the controversial Kari Lake, and the rest is history.

Katie Hobbs Net Worth: How Much Is the Arizona Governor-Elect Worth?

When Donald Trump attacked Arizona election officials, Katie Hobbs was thrusted in the national spotlight. Since defeating her MAGA darling opponent, Hobbs was back in the national conversation. However, this begs the question; how much is she worth?

According to Edu Dwar, as the current Arizona secretary of state, Hobbs earns around $24,000 per year through her government salary. They also estimated that for 2022, her net worth stands at an estimated $1.5 million.
