Part of the eligibility requirements are the following: not having a partial or short-term disability; meeting Social Security's definition of disability; and being younger than your full retirement age.

Certain members of the recipients' family may still be eligible to receive benefits based on your work record if you qualify for disability benefits.

An average Social Security disability benefit for an eligible worker receives an average of $1,358 per month. it is expected to increase by up to $1,483 in 2023.

The payments for disability benefits are based on average lifetime earnings and not on household income or the severity of an individual's disability.

SSDI Payments Apply Online

Social Security allows applicants to file their application for SSDI payments online.

Individuals can use the online application to apply for disability benefits if they are age 18 or older; not currently receiving benefits on their own Social Security record; and are unable to work because of a medical condition expected to last at least 12 months or result in death.

Lastly, individuals can file online if they have not been denied disability benefits in the last 60 days.

There are required information to apply for the SSDI payments such as information about you, including date and place of birth and Social Security number.

Social Security information and other basic information details of applicants' current spouse and former spouse will also be needed.

Aside from that, there will be a need for information about your medical condition and information about your work.

Some of the documents that you might need are a birth certificate, proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful alien status, and medical evidence among others.

There are certain advantages to applying online as not needing to wait for an appointment and can avoid trips to a Social Security office.

SSDI Payments

People can apply as soon as they are believed to be disabled. However, there is a mandatory waiting period before you can start receiving payments.

SSA noted that eligible recipients will be given their benefits after their sixth full month of disability.

Applicants can also check the status of their online application by using their personal Social Security account.

They can also call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778) from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
