Some busloads of migrants were dropped off at Vice President Kamala Harris' home in Washington, DC, on Christmas Eve.

While nobody has taken responsibility for this "cruel stunt," many blame Texas Governor Greg Abbott for orchestrating this incident, which forced many, including children, to suffer freezing weather after being dropped off to fend for themselves.

According to CNN, some of the migrants were wearing only T-shirts in the middle of 18-degree weather when the buses left them behind.

They were given blankets before being put on another bus that went to a local church. The first two buses were sent to local shelters by the Biden administration.

As for the nationalities of the migrants, many were asylum seekers from South and Central America, namely Ecuador, Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Peru, and Colombia. Migrant aid groups were reportedly prepared to take the migrants in.

Citing an administration official, CNN reported that two busloads initially arrived outside the Naval Observatory, the vice president's official residence, and were taken to local shelters. More buses reportedly arrived later in the evening.

Migrants Were Bused From Texas, Migrant Aid Group Says

Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network, a migrant aid NGO, said they have already expected migrants to be bussed to Washington, DC, as another NGO working at the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas already informed them that buses were on their way.

Another nonprofit group aiding the bused migrants, SAMU First Response, was also on the ground to help these migrants.

Amy Fischer, an organizer with the Migrant Solidarity Mutual Aid Network, spoke to NPR and blamed Greg Abbott for this stunt which she said was "rooted in racism and xenophobia."

The group was able to coordinate with the government and other groups in the end and was able to find shelters for the migrants.

Fischer noted that these migrants were originally bound for New York, but bad weather forced the bus to leave them in D.C. instead, and they chose the Naval Observatory as the drop-off point.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott Blasted for Stunt Leaving Migrants in Freezing Weather

Human rights groups were in solidarity when they condemned the Texas Governor for this stunt.

"This was intended to be a cruel stunt by Greg Abbott, but people are working around the clock to treat these families with the dignity they deserve," said activist Jenn Kauffman.

The White House also blamed the Republican governor for leaving migrants in the freezing D.C. weather and called his actions a "cruel, dangerous, and shameful stunt."

White House spokesperson Abdullah Hasan said, "Governor Abbott abandoned children on the side of the road in below-freezing temperatures on Christmas Eve without coordinating with any Federal or local authorities."

Texas Representative Joaquin Castro also blasted his state's governor, calling him "useless." He added, "how Christian of you" for leaving migrants in the cold on Christmas Eve.

He then called the Republican governor a "heartless POS," according to Common Dreams.
