New details on what really happened in that New Year's Day incident when a snow plow ran into "Hawkeye" actor Jeremy Renner. It turned out that he is a real-life superhero as he was trying to help out another before his snow plow ran him over.

In an interview with the Reno Gazette Journal, Mayor Hillary Schieve (Independent) stated, "He was helping someone stranded in the snow." She added that the Avenger is "always helping others" in their community.

Renner has been calling a mountain pass between Reno and Incline Village home for several years now, and he is calling Tahoe his "happy place."

A freak blizzard blew throughout the United States on New Year's Eve, leaving cars and houses buried in snow. Renner was trying to clear around three feet of it and create a pathway in and out of his Nevada home. A neighbor stated that Renner likes doing this and has been doing what is largely considered a chore for many years.

"He's a good guy. We don't talk to him all the time but he's nice. On the tough snow years, he did come by with his plow and asked people if they needed help," the neighbor said and added that the "Hawkeye" actor has a lot of toys in his Tahoe home.

Reno Mayor Tells Story of What Really Happened to Hawkeye Star Jeremy Renner

According to Mayor Schieve, Renner was plowing snow just outside his home on New Year's Day. It was then that he saw a stranded car and decided to help. He got off the snow plow to help but was run over by his own vehicle. The plow has since been towed and police are investigating what happened.

The plow ran over his leg but the actor also suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries. As reported earlier, he required two surgeries and is in critical condition but is now stable.

According to The New York Post, the mayor admitted she was friends with Renner and said that the "Avengers" actor was an "unsung, real-life hero who supports many local charities," and added that while he would post about some of the things he donated, some of the things he did for the community remain unknown to the general public.

"There are a few times he'll post about what he has done or donated toys, but most of it you would never know he is doing," she stated.

Jeremy Renner Now Out of Surgery

A representative for Renner spoke to PEOPLE magazine and confirmed that the actor is now out of surgery, though he has suffered blunt chest trauma and orthopedic injuries. The actor is currently remaining in a Nevada hospital's ICU.

The injuries to the actor were described as "extensive," and family, friends, and fans are praying that he will pull through.

Renner is slated to return in the lead role for the Paramount+ series, Mayor of Kingstown, on January 15. The second season has now wrapped up filming, with Jeremy Renner having finished filming all his scenes before the accident even occurred.
