In what seems to be yet another legal defeat for the former president, Donald Trump has dropped his appeal to revive his federal lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James. This came after he and his lawyers were fined by a Florida judge almost a million dollars for filing frivolous lawsuits.

Both sides agreed on Tuesday that the Trump team would end their appeal to reverse a judge's decision to dismiss the lawsuit. In his suit, filed on December 2021, the former president and reality show star tried to block James' investigation of his businesses, including the Trump Organization,

The suit was later thrown out, but Trump tried to sue again as a countersuit to the New York AG's lawsuit against him. That lawsuit alleged that the Trump Organization misled banks and others about the value of its assets, including various hotels and golf courses. She called this practice the "art of the steal," a play on Trump's book titled "The Art of the Deal," according to the Associated Press.

Alina Habba, one of Donald Trump's lawyers who was also fined, stated that the appeal withdrawal was voluntary and was made for "strategic purposes."

The first lawsuit was thrown out by U.S. District Judge Brenda Sannes, who allowed New York AG Leticia James to continue her civil investigation into the Trump Organization, saying that "case law bars federal judges from interfering in state-level investigations." The judge also added that Trump had no evidence to support his claims that he was targeted by James for political reasons.

Florida Judge Says Donald Trump Has a Pattern of Abusing the Court System

Last week, Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks of Florida accused former President Donald Trump of having a "pattern of abuse of the courts" because he often filed frivolous lawsuits for political purposes. The judge cited a bogus lawsuit that Trump filed back in 2016 against then-political rival Hillary Clinton, according to Yahoo! News.

Trump filed the appeal in a state court in Florida but was moved to a federal court. There, Trump repeated some of his claims against James' investigation, which had been dismissed before. This just annoyed the judge, who wrote, "This litigation has all the telltale signs of being both vexatious and frivolous."

Department of Justice Looking to Slap Donald Trump With 'Appeal-Proof' Charge for January 6

Donald Trump is facing a myriad of legal challenges since leaving office, and one of them is the DOJ investigation into January 6.

According to MSN, calls to prosecute the former president had been growing louder as more January 6 insurrectionists were convicted of seditious conspiracy.

However, in his appearance on NBC's "Morning Joe," The Guardian correspondent Hugo Lowell stated that federal prosecutors are "likely attempt to make a narrow, and appeal-proof, case against Trump."

Lowell pointed out that the seditious conspiracy charges against the Oath Keepers members happened because the government had concrete evidence against them, proving that they did engage in political violence to stop the peaceful transfer of power in favor of Donald Trump.

The political correspondent also added that while the Oath Keepers trial had solid evidence that showed they were planning more violence, the prosecution is still missing that kind of evidence for Trump, with the DOJ now looking at an obstruction of an official proceeding charge rather than seditious conspiracy.
