Controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was assaulted inside an LA Fitness gym in Florida on Tuesday night. Several people attacked him inside the gym in Lake Worth, which is part of Palm Beach County.

Palm Beach County sheriff's deputies described the incident as an "altercation between several individuals." However, the attack has left the 26-year-old rapper, whose real name is Daniel Hernandez, with several injuries.

According to the Associated Press, he had been taken to a nearby hospital to receive treatment. So far, no motive for the attack has been revealed to the public.

Tekashi 6ix9ine earned the label of a "snitch" after his testimony against his own gang helped convict two high-ranking members. However, it is unclear whether this incident is related to that case.

Tekashi 6ix9ine Had Multiple Injuries After the Attack in Florida Gym

Shortly after Tekashi 6ix9ine was hospitalized, the rapper's attorney, Lance Lazzaro, said his client was attacked inside and outside the LA Fitness gym sauna.

Lazzaro noted that three or four men assaulted the rapper, who tried to fight back, Variety reported. The lawyer said the attackers soon fled after employees heard the disturbance.

Police were called, and Tekashi 6ix9ine was soon taken via ambulance to a nearby hospital. "He had cuts to his face and bruises," Lazzaro said.

It is unclear if the rapper is still hospitalized. However, his lawyer told TMZ that he plans to ensure that his client gets some protection. He reportedly did not have any personal bodyguards with him while he was in the gym.

Leaked videos of the incident were reportedly posted on Twitter, with one of the rapper's assailants being heard saying, "Take a picture. I'm gonna be famous now."

Another video showed a bloodied and bruised Tekashi 6ix9ine trying to walk out of the gym.

Who Is Tekashi 6ix9ine?

According to CBS News, Tekashi 6ix9ine became a social media phenomenon with millions of followers on Instagram before he even became a popular rapper.

He broke into the scene when he collaborated with Nicki Minaj for the song "Fefe," which became a multiplatinum hit and peaked at No. 3 on the pop charts. It was followed by "Stoopid," which featured then-incarcerated rapper Bobby Shmurda.

However, he gained even more national prominence for being a snitch. He was supposed to face decades in prison as part of a racketeering case in which he was accused of using the violent Nine Trey Bloods gang as a "personal hit squad."

He previously faced nine charges, including drug trafficking and firearm offenses aside from racketeering. His sentence was reduced to two years in prison in 2019 after his testimony against his own gang.

He has since gotten out, though he may still remain in danger of retaliation from his former gang mates.
