Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg has become one of the biggest names today, as he made history when he indicted former President Donald Trump. But who is he, and how rich is he?

Alvin Leonard Bragg Jr. is quite the history-making prosecutor as he is not only the first to indict a former president but also the first person of color to be elected as the New York County District Attorney in 2021.

Last year, Bragg won against Trump's camp. After leading an investigation into the Trump Organization, the company's Chief Financial Officer, Allen Weisselberg, was found guilty of 15 felony counts linked to a long-running tax evasion scheme.

For prosecuting Trump, Bragg is mostly seen as a villain on the right, especially with the pro-Trump MAGA crowd. However, many centrists and those on the left see him as a hero who could put Trump away and hold him accountable for some of his crimes.

Alvin Bragg's Motivation in Pursuing Justice

According to GH Base, Alvin Bragg's passion for justice was fueled by his personal experiences with the criminal justice system.

In the past interviews, the Manhattan district attorney was not shy about why he became a lawyer and his experience of being deeply affected by the New York Police Department's (NYPD) gunpoint stops.

Bragg had experienced the NYPD's gunpoint stops three times in his life, and these experiences are what made him decide to pursue a career as a lawyer.

He wanted to fight for fairness and equality in the criminal justice system, so he pursued his education at Trinity School and Harvard College.

Soon enough, he became an editor of the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. Bragg noted that he also got his Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School before serving as a clerk for federal district judge Robert P. Patterson Jr.

Before this, he joined the law firm Morvillo Abramowitz Grand Iason & Anello. As an associate of the private law firm, he focused on white-collar fraud and civil rights cases.

In 2003, Bragg started working for the office of the Attorney General of New York, serving as the Chief of Litigation and Investigations for the New York City Council before becoming the Chief Deputy Attorney General of New York.

In that position, he oversaw several high-profile cases, including that of Harvey Weinstein and, of course, Trump.

There were some controversies in his tenure as Manhattan district attorney. Two lead prosecutors investigating Trump, Carey R. Dunne and Mark F. Pomerantz, resigned and expressed doubts about moving forward with a case against the former president.

However, Bragg is confident in his case and is now pursuing Trump about his hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels just days before the 2016 election.
