Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg is pushing back against Republican Rep. Jim Jordan's subpoena of an ex-Manhattan prosecutor who had previously led a criminal investigation into former President Donald Trump.

Jordan on Thursday subpoenaed Mark Pomerantz, a former New York prosecutor who had led a probe into Trump's finances before quitting last year in a clash over the direction of the investigation.

Jordan, a staunch Trump ally known for hiding sexual abuses of students at Ohio State University when he was still an assistant wrestling coach, is the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee.

He has ramped up his investigation of Bragg by calling Pomerantz to testify before the committee by April 30.

The Republican-led committee started to probe Bragg days after the former president was charged in a 34-count felony indictment in connection with the hush money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels just days before the 2016 election.

Bragg slammed the subpoena and called it another example of Republicans' "attempt to undermine" an active probe and ongoing criminal case in New York.

"The House GOP continues to attempt to undermine an active investigation and ongoing New York criminal case with an unprecedented campaign of harassment and intimidation," Bragg wrote in a statement shared on Twitter.

He added that "repeated efforts to weaken state and local law enforcement actions are an abuse of power and will not deter us from our duty to uphold the law."

According to Rolling Stone, Bragg then pointed out that what Jordan was doing was intruding on the sovereignty of the state of New York, as this was a state issue and not federal.

Calling the interference by Jordan and the House GOP inappropriate, Bragg's general counsel, Leslie Dubeck, added: "The unprecedented inquiry by federal elected officials into an ongoing matter serves only to hinder, disrupt and undermine the legitimate work of our dedicated prosecutors."

Jim Jordan Issued Subpoena on Another Manhattan DA Official

Jim Jordan issued another subpoena to a member of Alvin Bragg's team on Friday, NBC reported. Jordan also requested testimony from Matthew Colangelo, senior counsel to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

The Ohio Republican asked Colangelo to hand over documents related to his investigation into Trump and his business and schedule a "transcribed interview" with committee staff by April 21.

Jordan claimed that the Manhattan DA's "unprecedented prosecutorial conduct" needs oversight to inform potential future legislative changes and implied that the committee's probe aims to prevent "politically motivated prosecutions of current and former presidents."

Eric Trump Spreads Fake News Against Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg

When his father was arrested on April 4, Donald Trump's son, Eric Trump, posted on Facebook that "Alvin Bragg has shut down the entire city, called up 38,000 NYPD police officers, closed down FDR Drive and is spending an estimated $200 million of city funds, all for a $130,000 NDA."

The post was shared by hundreds of people on social media, with the former president himself sharing a similar claim on Truth Social. However, USA Today reported that this claim was not true.

Eric's post misrepresented what really happened and Bragg's role in city operations, as the Manhattan District Attorney did not order New York City to be shut down.

While FDR Drive was indeed closed down, it was the New York Police Department (NYPD) that did it, given the potential of violence that Donald Trump supporters could do, like what they did on the January 6 Capitol riot.

Bragg does not oversee the NYPD and has no authority to call up officers. Fabien Levy, press secretary for New York City Mayor Eric Adams, told USA TODAY that both Donald Trump and Eric Trump fabricated these numbers "without any actual information."
