The House GOP, led by Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, has been trying to interfere in Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg's case against Donald Trump. Now, the Manhattan DA finally pushed back legally, as it filed a lawsuit against the congressman from Ohio.

The lawsuit sought to stop a House Judiciary Committee inquiry that subpoenaed several personnel from the Manhattan DA's Office, as well as asked for several documents regarding the case.

Bragg argued that this inquiry was a "transparent campaign to intimidate and attack" over his office's investigations into the hush money payment made by Donald Trump to porn star Stormy Daniels just days before the 2016 presidential election.

U.S. District Judge Mary Kay Vyskocil denied Bragg's request for emergency relief on Tuesday but has scheduled a hearing in Manhattan on April 19, just a day before the committee planned to question Bragg under a subpoena.

The Associated Press noted that this was a forceful escalation on Bragg's behalf. This came after weeks of releasing statements and letters that blasted Jordan and other Republicans over their "constitutionally destructive fishing expedition" that threatens the sovereignty and integrity of a state-level prosecution.

"Congress lacks any valid legislative purpose to engage in a free-ranging campaign of harassment in retaliation for the District Attorney's investigation and prosecution of Mr. Trump under the laws of New York," the lawsuit stated as the Manhattan DA pointed out that Congress lacks the constitutional authority "to oversee, let alone disrupt, ongoing state law criminal matters."

Jim Jordan Hits Back at Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg Over Lawsuit

"First, they indict a president for no crime. Then, they sue to block congressional oversight when we ask questions about the federal funds they say they used to do it," he wrote.

However, in the lawsuit, Bragg knocked that Jordan's assertion about $5,000 in federal funds used in relation to his office's investigation into Trump as the counsel for the Manhattan DA had already stated that it would comply with a committee request for information on the use of federal funds.

New York Representative Dan Goldman Slams Jim Jordan Over Planned Hearing in New York

The House Judiciary Committee under Jim Jordan has been planning to conduct a hearing in New York City next week. However, New York Democrats, including Rep. Dan Goldman, are pushing back, with Goldman hitting Jordan's plans and saying that the GOP congressman is "not welcome" in Goldman's district, which was where the planned hearing was supposed to take place.

"Instead of focusing on improving the lives of the American people, Jim Jordan has decided to come to my district at the behest of Donald Trump to continue to weaponize Congress to obstruct an ongoing, non-federal criminal prosecution," said the New York Representative. "If Jordan truly cared about public safety, he'd be having a field hearing in Nashville, Tennessee or Louisville, Kentucky, where the most recent of the daily mass shootings have killed more innocent Americans."

Goldman then accused Jordan of wasting taxpayer money in support of Trump's defense, according to The Hill.
