A Dadeville mass shooting killed four people and wounded 28 others in what was supposed to be a joyful birthday party celebration of one Alabama teenager.

NPR reported that the Dadeville mass shooting occurred at the Mahogany Masterpiece dance studio just after 10:30 p.m. as people gathered for a Sweet 16 birthday party.

Sgt. Jeremy Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency said during a press conference that the situation is "very fluid," adding that they are still confirming the people inside the studio building during the Alabama shooting.

Burkett did not say how many of those injured were wounded by gunshots or how many were in critical condition.

Heidi Smith, the marketing director of Ivy Creek Healthcare, said that the hospital treated at least 15 gunshot victims.

Smith said that at least 17 ambulances responded to the scene, with some victims being treated and released from the Lake Martin Community Hospital.

Annette Allen said that it was her granddaughter's 16 birthday party where the shooting happened.

Allen's grandson was killed by the gunfire. He was a high school athlete.

Dadeville Mass Shooting

The Independent noted that the victims of the shooting are believed to be teenagers, with police still to provide further details about the matter, including some of the names of those who were killed or if the suspect shooter was in custody.

It was not yet known what could be the possible motive for the attack.

Dadeville Mayor Frank Goodman said that he was in bed asleep when a council member called him just before 11 p.m. on Saturday. He then went to Lake Martin Community Hospital in Dadeville, where some of the victims were taken.

Goodman described the scene at the hospital as "chaotic" with people running around, crying, and screaming.

Burkett noted that the victims suffered a "wide variety of injuries."

Those identified to be killed include KeKe Nicole Smith. She was an 18-year-old volleyball player and team manager for the Dadeville High School track team.

Another recently identified victim was Philstavious "Phil" Dowdell. He was an honor student and was set to play Division 1 college football.

Members of the affected community gathered on Sunday afternoon at the First Baptist Church in Dadeville and held a vigil to pray and offer support to one another.

One of the victims of the shooting, Taniya Cox, was present at the vigil wearing a hospital gown with her right arm in a cast.

Cox was shot twice in her right arm at the party on Saturday, according to USA Today.

She noted that she went to the back of the room and there were "other shooters," who reportedly told her to get out of the way or she would get shot.

Pastor Ben Hayes said that Dadeville is a small community and the shooting will affect everyone in the area.

At least one shooting occurred in Dadeville, wherein a gunman wounded five people during a party on August 28, 2016.
