Wrexham went from a struggling Welsh soccer team to champions of the National League thanks to Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. The team truly had a Hollywood ending after the two actors took over and completely transformed the team.

Wrexham defeated London-based Boreham Wood 3-1 to secure the Vanarama National League title. The National League is considered the fifth tier of the English football system, and winning it means an automatic promotion to the fourth tier, the English Football League. This is the first time this has happened for Wrexham since 2008, according to CNBC.

The club was relegated to the National League in 2008 and had been doing dismally until the two Hollywood personalities took over. They poured millions into the team, securing good players and renovating "The Racecourse," Wrexham's home field. They were also responsible for the documentary, "Welcome to Wrexham," as well as elevating the club from a small Welsh team into a global brand.

Reynolds and McElhenney bought the team in 2020 and suffered the heartbreak of not getting promoted last year. They did not have much knowledge of soccer or of North Wales, where Wrexham is located, before they even decided to buy the once-struggling team,

When the two Hollywood bigshots decided to buy a small Welsh soccer team, many raised their eyebrows and predicted they would be disinterested owners. However, given the amount of money and recognition that the two have poured into the team, as well as the vast improvement it had, those concerns have been quashed.

As the whistle was blown, announcing the end of the match against Boreham Wood, the two celebrity owners were seen in a video trying to fight back the tears as a jubilant Welsh crowd celebrated below. It was none other than Ant-Man himself, Paul Rudd, who caught it on camera.

Phil Parkinson, the club's manager, credited the "Deadpool" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" stars saying, "It's a massive moment for this football club - from the owners all the way down to the supporters who have followed this club over the last 15 years in some really tough times, and I'm pleased for every single one of them."

According to CNN, the team would probably try to get promoted again from League Two to League One, inching closer to its Hollywood owners' goal of reaching the English Premier League, one of the most prestigious soccer leagues worldwide. However, this might be easier said than done, as the competition in League Two is expected to be a lot tougher than in the National League.

Wrexham Fans Celebrate Historic Win

Wrexham is the third oldest professional soccer club in the world. Despite the team having descended down the ranks of the English soccer pyramid, the fans have remained loyal, even traveling hundreds of miles just to see their team play.

When the team finally won the National League championship, fans were left speechless, according to the BBC.
