California Governor Gavin Newsom sat down with Fox News host Sean Hannity in a contentious interview where the Fox Host was fact-checked to his face as he repeated several usual Fox News talking points regarding Trump and California.

Hannity pointed out that California's population had been dropping as of late, with him attributing it to the Golden State's high tax rates. However, Newsom pushed back, saying that "Per capita, more Floridians move to California than California is moving to Florida."

According to Fox Business, the state attributed the dip in population, which was around 0.3%, to reduced births, immigration, an increase in deaths, and people moving to other states.

He also pushed back on Hannity's tax claims, where he said that California has a 13.3% tax on the high 1% of taxpayers.

"Here's my point. We've had a progressive tax, but I didn't establish the 13.3%, that was done before I even got here. I have opposed new increases in the top 1% tax. I opposed the statewide wealth tax. I've never been a profligate Democrat," the California governor said and added that middle-class families in the state pay less than the majority of other states because of that bigger tax on the wealthy.

He also pushed back on Hannity's claims that big companies like Tesla left California, with Newsom pointing out that the state has created more and more new millionaires and that a few companies leaving is "inconsequential."

"One-half of America's $1 billion valued companies are in the state of California. This state economy has outperformed the nation 3.1% in the last decade, 2.1% nationwide. I've been hearing this nonsense for half a century, literally half a century," he said.

Gavin Newsom Fact-Checks Sean Hannity's Claims Even More

During the interview, Hannity told Gavin Newsom that he does not think President Joe Biden is mentally and physically capable of being president. However, Newsom stated several facts about what Biden has already done, including the bipartisan infrastructure deal, as well as the CHIPS Act.

"Joe Biden's created more jobs, six times more jobs, than the previous three Republican presidents combined," said the California governor before Hannity played a supercut of Biden's verbal gaffes and physical stumbles, according to Yahoo! News.

However, Newsom answered this by pointing out that Biden got results done despite this, including preventing a historic default by getting House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to agree on a bipartisan deal.

Gavin Newsom Says He Would Debate Ron DeSantis Even If Sean Hannity Would Moderate

During that same interview, Newsom also told Hannity that he would accept a debate with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, even if Sean Hannity would be the one moderating, according to The Hill.

"I'm all in. Count on it," Newsom told Hannity, who asked, "You would do a two-hour debate with Ron DeSantis?" To which the California governor replied, "Make it three," and added that he would do it on one day's notice with no notes.

This shot came amid Newsom and DeSantis being at odds after the Florida governor sent a plane full of immigrants to Sacramento. Newsom is threatening charges against those involved, as the migrants were possibly lured into the state with fraudulent claims that homes and jobs were waiting for them.
