Actress Zoe Saldaña, who portrays the Na'vi warrior and devoted mother Neytiri, expressed a mix of humor and surprise at the prolonged timeline of "Avatar" sequels when the three anticipated films, directed by James Cameron, are now set to extend the franchise's journey until 2031, per Variety.

In a lighthearted Instagram post, she shared her amusement, noting that she will be 53 years old by the time the final "Avatar" installment hits theaters, having been 27 during the filming of the first film.

Zoe Saldaña's co-star, Sam Worthington, who plays the protagonist, Jake Sully, will be 55 when the last movie is released. Meanwhile, director James Cameron will be 77 years old.

The second film in the series, titled "Avatar: The Way of Water," premiered in theaters last December, marking a 13-year gap since the original film captivated audiences and became the highest-grossing movie of all time (unadjusted for inflation) with a staggering $2.9 billion in box office revenue.

Despite initial doubts, the sequel, "The Way of Water," defied expectations and achieved great success, amassing $2.3 billion in worldwide ticket sales and securing its place as the world's third highest-grossing film.

'Avatar' 2031

In a recent announcement, Disney revealed that the release date for "Avatar 3" has been postponed from December 2024 to December 2025.

As a result, the fourth and fifth installments in James Cameron's beloved fantasy franchise have also been pushed back, with the fourth film now slated for December 2029 and the final installment set to hit theaters in December 2031, The Independent noted.

Producer Jon Landau took to Twitter to address the delay, emphasizing that each "Avatar" film is an ambitious and intricate endeavor that requires time and dedication to achieve the level of quality both filmmakers and audiences expect.

The original "Avatar" film captivated audiences when released in 2009, ultimately becoming the highest-grossing film of all time with an impressive box office revenue of $2.9 billion.

The first film's success solidified the franchise's place in cinematic history and left fans eagerly anticipating the continuation of the captivating story.

While the new release dates may require fans to exercise patience, it's clear that the production team is committed to delivering a remarkable cinematic experience with each installment of the "Avatar" saga.

Zoe Saldaña and 'Avatar' Series

While Zoe Saldaña's journey as Neytiri in the "Avatar" film series will span over two and a half decades, fans must exercise patience as they await the release of the upcoming sequels.

Filming for "Avatar 3" reportedly concluded in December 2020, and production for "Avatar 4" commenced in September 2022, according to Cinemablend.

Zoe Saldaña will be involved in the franchise for a significant period, but audiences will have to wait more than five years to witness the scenes she is currently shooting.

While specific details about "Avatar 4" and "Avatar 5" remain scarce, there is some information available about "Avatar 3." The introduction of the Ash People and the continuation of a significant relationship and grudge are among the aspects explored in the film.

In the meantime, "Avatar: The Way of Water" is now available for streaming on Disney+ alongside its predecessor. CinemaBlend will continue to update the progress of the following three installments in the "Avatar" franchise. Additionally, audiences can still catch Zoe Saldaña in theaters reprising her role as Gamora in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."
