Tragic news has emerged regarding the passing of rap pioneer Gangsta Boo, whose real name was Lola Mitchell.

The autopsy findings indicate that Gangsta Boo cause of death was an overdose caused by a combination of fentanyl, cocaine, and alcohol, according to an autopsy report, per TMZ.

On New Year's Day, Boo was discovered unconscious inside a residence in Memphis. Despite attempts to revive her, she was pronounced dead at the scene. She was 43 years old.

Just a day before her passing, Boo, also known as Lola Chantrelle Mitchell, shared a video on Instagram discussing her accomplishments in 2022 and expressing excitement for the year ahead. Her words highlighted her progress and personal growth during the previous year.

Gangsta Boo's Career

Gangsta Boo, the renowned rapper known for hits like "Stay Fly," had an impressive career that spanned several decades and left a lasting impact on the hip-hop scene, PEOPLE noted.

Growing up in the Whitehaven area of Memphis, Boo discovered her passion for music at a young age, transforming her poems into rap lyrics using a keyboard given to her by her father.

At just 15 years old, Gangsta Boo joined the influential local hip-hop collective Three 6 Mafia, becoming one of the group's few female members.

Reflecting on her background, Boo once shared in an interview with i-D magazine that she experienced the best of both worlds, having grown up in a middle-class family that relocated to a more challenging neighborhood after her parents' divorce.

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, Three 6 Mafia released a series of albums, earning accolades. Notably, the group won an Oscar for Best Original Song for their powerful track "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp," featured in Hustle & Flow.

Gangsta Boo succeeded significantly as a solo artist, separate from her work with Three 6 Mafia and the spin-off group Da Mafia 6ix. Her debut solo album, "Enquiring Minds," reached No. 15 on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop chart, while her second solo release reached No. 8 on the same chart.

Gangsta Boo Posthumous Album Is Set to Release on Her 44th Birthday

In honor of what would have been Gangsta Boo's 44th birthday on August 7, a posthumous album featuring her music is set to be released, according to Yahoo! Entertainment.

The album promises exciting collaborations with artists such as Run The Jewels, Latto, Skepta, La Chat, and Crunchy Black. Notable producers like Drumma Boy, Nick Hook, El-P, Metro Boomin, and BeatKing are also said to have contributed to the project.

Following Gangsta Boo's untimely passing, her mother released a heartfelt statement expressing gratitude for the support and condolences received from fans and the community.

"The Mitchell family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone for their condolences in light of the unexpected passing of Lola 'Gangsta Boo' Mitchell," she said.

She further requested continued prayers and privacy as they navigate the loss of their beloved family member. In the statement, she paid tribute to her daughter, acknowledging her as the "Queen" of their hometown.

Reflecting on their bond, she shared, "My daughter Lola was my only baby girl," she added. "I was so proud when she would rap as a little girl. She became the Queen of Memphis. My baby is loved by people everywhere, and it all started at home with us... God brought her home with her daddy Cedric and her brother Derron."
